PM Modi to hold first council of ministers after Op Sindoor

New Delhi, June 4 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Wednesday hold a meeting of the Council of Ministers, the first after Operation Sindoor.

Sources say a presentation and a discussion on the precision strikes under Operation Sindoor in which Indian armed forces destroyed terror camps deep inside Pakistan and PoK and later bombed airbases of the neighbouring country are likely in the meeting.

This is the first such meeting after India’s punitive military action against Pakistan launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

Sources said the ministers may be given details of the operation, which will also feature in the ruling BJP’s programmes being held to mark the first anniversary of the Modi government’s third term.

An overall highlight of his governance thrust in the meeting to help ministers prepare for anniversary events, they add.

A couple of days back PM Modi had briefed cabinet ministers, and also advised them to be thoroughly prepared before speaking on any issue of public importance.

India’s strikes on nine terror sites in Pakistan and PoK and counter-attack on the neighbouring country’s military facilities, especially air bases, have been a highlight of PM Modi’s recent speeches

Environment Day—PM to lead with ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’

New Delhi, June 4- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead a special tree plantation initiative on the occasion of World Environment Day on Thursday.

The PM will plant a Banyan sapling under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park to reaffirm India’s commitment to environmental stewardship and green mobility.

This will be part of the ‘Aravalli Green Wall project’ which aims to reforest the 700-km Aravalli range.

The project is a major initiative to spread green cover in the 5-km buffer area around the Aravalli Hill Range in 29 districts of four states, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Gujarat, aimed at bossing the biodiversity of the Aravallis through afforestation, reforestation and restoration of water bodies.

It also aims to improve soil fertility, water availability and climate resilience of the region. The project will also be of benefit to the local communities by providing them with employment and income generation opportunities, according to an official statement.

The Prime Minister will also flag off 200 electric buses under Delhi Government’s sustainable transport initiative, promoting clean urban mobility and symbolising the nation’s collective responsibility towards ecological balance.

Chenab bridge—world’s highest railway arch bridge, PM to inaugurate on Friday

New Delhi. June 4- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Friday inaugurate the world’s highest railway arch bridge—the Chenab Bridge— connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India via rail for the first time in history. The PM will also flag off Vande Bharat trains between Katra and Srinagar and launch multiple development projects worth over Rs 46,000 crore at Katra, the home to the Mata Vaishno Devi temple, according to an official statement.

Standing at a height of 359 metres, Chenab Bridge is an architectural marvel, the statement noted. The 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge is engineered to withstand seismic and wind conditions. It will enhance connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar and reduce travel time between Katra and Srinagar by 2-3 hours.

The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration.

The Anji Bridge is India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge that will serve the nation in a challenging terrain.

An arch bridge is a bridge with abutments at each end shaped as a curved arch.

Arch bridges work by transferring the weight of the bridge and its loads partially into a horizontal thrust restrained by the abutments at either side, and partially into a vertical load on the arch supports, say experts.

Govt unlikely to pay heed to Opposition’ demand for special session

New Delhi, June 3- The Narendra Modi government is unlikely to pay heed to the opposition’ demand for a special session of Parliament on Operation Sindoor.

Sources confirmed this saying that the Monsoon Session is already scheduled for July, making it unnecessary to convene any special session before that. Expectedly, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will also be making a detailed statement on Operation Sindoor in both Houses of Parliament during the Monsoon Session, they added.

Particularly in the Rajya Sabha a statement on a particular issue is often followed by a discussion during which members can raise points, ask questions and offer their perspectives.

Mounting pressure on the BJP-led government, leaders of 16 opposition parties today wrote to PM Modi, demanding a special session on Operation Sindoor. Several opposition parties have been demanding this ever since the April-22 terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 persons, mostly tourists, dead.

The particular demand was also raised at an all-party meeting held to inform the lawmakers about Operation Sindoor under which Indian armed forces destroyed terror camps deep inside Pakistan and PoK and later bombed airbases of the neighbouring country.

The sacred relics of Lord Buddha, which has recently returned to Delhi after a month-long pilgrimage to nine cities of Vietnam, will depart in a Presidential Cavalcade with full state protocol tomorrow.

They will be taken to Sarnath through Varanasi and ceremoniously enshrined at the Mulagandha Kuti Vihar, marking the end of this historic international pilgrimage.

The sacred relics landed in Delhi accompanied by a high-level Indian delegation led by Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati. They were welcomed at Palam Air Force Station by senior monks and representatives of the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC).

Creating a powerful message of peace, compassion, and cultural solidarity, this is the first time that Lord Budhha’s relics were displayed in Vietnam where a record 17.80 million people venerated them.

Treated with the status of a State Guest, the relics served as a spiritual bridge between India and Vietnam. Their return marks not just the end of a journey, but the beginning of renewed faith among millions worldwide.

The sacred relics, considered among the holiest for the global Buddhist community, reached Ho Chi Minh City on May 2 to be part of the United Nations Day of Vesak celebrations hosted by Vietnam.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the tour drew massive crowds across key spiritual sites. At Ay Thanh Tâm Monastery in Ho Chi Minh City (May 3–8), 1.87 million devotees paid their respects. The Tam Chuc Pagoda in Ha Nam Province (May 17–19) saw over 2 million pilgrims, while the Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi (May 13–17) attracted more than 7 million devotees, including 2 million during the central relic procession.

Initially scheduled to end on May 21, the exposition was extended until June 2 due to an overwhelming spiritual response and at the special request of the Government of Vietnam.

“The veneration not only affirmed Vietnam’s deep-rooted Buddhist heritage but also became a vibrant expression of national unity and peace. Ceremonies included relic processions, meditative gatherings, chanting, and educational sessions, fostering spiritual mindfulness among attendees of all ages,” the ministry stated.

Transported from Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad to Vietnam with the full honours reserved for a State Guest, the relics are now on public exhibition at the National Museum in Delhi for a day. A formal prayer meeting, attended by senior monks, IBC Secretary General, and diplomats, was held in the afternoon.

Speaking at the launch, Praveen Khandelwal, Member of Parliament and Secretary General, CAIT said, “This initiative is not just about digital training — it is about creating a nationwide network of digitally empowered women traders who can lead India’s economic transformation.”

This programme aims to localize digitization efforts through region-specific training modules delivered in multiple Indian languages.

It will be executed through a structured, impact-driven approach, in-person workshops to build digital and business acumen.

Through this programme, participants will learn to create their own ‘digital dukaan’ using the WhatsApp Business App, real-world examples of successful women-led ventures, practical training on WhatsApp Catalogs, Quick Replies, and Click-to-WhatsApp Ads.

Successful women entrepreneurs will engage with participants to share their journeys, offering mentorship, motivation, and actionable insights.

Opposition leaders demand special session, write to PM

New Delhi, June 3- Mounting pressure on the Narendra Modi government, leaders of 16 opposition parties today demanded a special session of Parliament on Operation Sindoor. Writing as INDIA Bloc, leaders from the parties, including Congress, Trinamool Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party, and Shiv Sena (UBT), demanded the special session in a letter addressed to PM Modi.

Congress’ Jairam Ramesh and Deependra Hooda, TMC’s Derek O’Brien, SP’s Ramgopal Yadav, RJD’s Manoj Jha, and Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut were among those who attended the meeting. Signatories included the DMK but the party could not join as the meeting coincided with party supremo M Karunanidhi’s birth anniversary.

“ Sixteen parties have written a letter to the Prime Minister demanding a special session of the Parliament…The letter talks about Poonch, Uri, Rajouri and having a free discussion in Parliament. The government is responsible to the Parliament. Parliament is responsible to the people, which is why we are demanding a special session. The Aam Aadmi Party will be writing directly tomorrow to the PM,” TMC leader Derek O’ Brien told media persons.

Opposition leaders said National Conference, CPM, IUML, CPI, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Kerala Congress, MDMK and CPI(ML) Liberation are also among the signatories

Several Opposition parties have been demanding a special session of Parliament since the April-22 terror attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir that left 26 persons, mostly tourists, dead. The demand was also raised at an all-party meeting held to inform the lawmakers about Operation Sindoor under which Indian armed forces destroyed terror camps deep inside Pakistan and PoK and later bombed airbases of the neighbouring country.

Op Sindoor—has Congress lost good opportunity to pull down BJP

New Delhi, June 3- As India awaits the return of all-party delegations sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to explain Operation Sindoor to the world,  present India’s position and garner global support for its fight against terrorism, the question is whether the main opposition Congress has lost a good opportunity to pull down the BJP.

The all-party delegations are on their way home and PM Modi is expected to meet the members to applaud their efforts in presenting New Delhi’s views to the world— zero-tolerance for terrorism and the “new normal” against it.

The delegations comprise Members of Parliament from across the political spectrum, senior political leaders and diplomats, and their meeting with the PM will also make excellent optics in favour of the BJP-led NDA government within the country

Senior Congress leaders, including Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tiwari, Anand Sharma are a part of the all-party delegations conveying India’s view point. In fact Tharoor’s speeches in particular have been the recipient of much attention and appreciation in international, national and diplomatic circles.

A section within the Congress believes that the party could have used this appreciation as a proof of the quality of its leaders and bench-strength in Parliament vis-à-vis the BJP.

“The fact that the Modi government had to call upon well-read and articulate Congress MPs to make the point to the world could have been used as an example of the party’s selection of candidates and their commitment to the national interest.

The Congress should have celebrated their achievement, basked under the attention they have drawn, taken credit for sending the right people to the Parliament and honoured them on the party platform.  Internal politics could have been left for another day as this was the time to score against the BJP,” they say.

Tensions have been visible between Tharoor and Congress for a long time. But what seems to have really upset the party this time were his remarks on the 2016 surgical strikes.

His total support to the BJP-led Centre was seen as straying from the party line and he was openly checked by colleagues like Pawan Khera and Udit Raj, who also called him a “super spokesperson of the BJP”.

Tharoor, meanwhile, said he would speak to colleagues, critics and media once he returns.

The Congress may be upset with Tharoor but this was not the right time to show it, and at a time when other opposition parties are trying to showcase their leaders who represented India. By doing so the grand old party seems to have played right into the BJP’s hand, observers add.

PM Modi speaks to Assam and Sikkim CMs, Manipur Governor on Flood Situation, assures full support

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday dialled the Chief Ministers of Assam and Sikkim, as well as Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla, to take stock of the flood situation in the northeastern states and offered all possible assistance in dealing with the flood menace.

The northeastern states, including Assam, Sikkim, Tripura, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, have been battered by heavy rains in the past few days, thereby bringing life to a standstill and cutting off the key supply chain to remote locations in these states.

PM Modi assured Assam and Sikkim CMs, as well as the Manipur Governor, of all possible assistance from the Centre in the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

The incessant rains in the northeast states, including Assam, Sikkim and Manipur and other adjoining regions, have caused water levels in rivers to swell to menacing levels. Major rivers of the region, including Brahmaputra, Pachnoi, and Kushiyara, are said to be flowing at alarming levels. Lakhs of hectares of land have been inundated, confining people to their homes and forcing those living in low-lying areas to move to safer locations.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also took to X to inform that PM Modi called him to inquire about the flood situation in the state.

“I briefed the Prime Minister on how continuous rainfall in Assam and adjoining states has led to flooding and impacted many lives. I also apprised him of the relief operation undertaken by the state government,” he informed on X.

“The Prime Minister expressed concern and assured full support from the Central Government for our relief and rehabilitation efforts. Grateful for his guidance and unwavering support to the people of Assam,” he further said.

Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang, taking to X, thanked the Prime Minister for extending support regarding the landslide and flood situation in the state.

He also reiterated that the state administration remains fully committed to managing the situation and providing all necessary assistance to those affected.

In Manipur, the Army and Assam Rifles personnel are collectively carrying out the relief operation. They have so far rescued over 1,000 flood-hit people in Imphal East and Imphal West districts, grappling with a serious flood situation.

A flood bulletin issued by the Manipur administration on Monday informed that more than 56,000 people remained affected in at least 174 villages.
