New Delhi, June 3- Mounting pressure on the Narendra Modi government, leaders of 16 opposition parties today demanded a special session of Parliament on Operation Sindoor. Writing as INDIA Bloc, leaders from the parties, including Congress, Trinamool Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party, and Shiv Sena (UBT), demanded the special session in a letter addressed to PM Modi.
Congress’ Jairam Ramesh and Deependra Hooda, TMC’s Derek O’Brien, SP’s Ramgopal Yadav, RJD’s Manoj Jha, and Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut were among those who attended the meeting. Signatories included the DMK but the party could not join as the meeting coincided with party supremo M Karunanidhi’s birth anniversary.
“ Sixteen parties have written a letter to the Prime Minister demanding a special session of the Parliament…The letter talks about Poonch, Uri, Rajouri and having a free discussion in Parliament. The government is responsible to the Parliament. Parliament is responsible to the people, which is why we are demanding a special session. The Aam Aadmi Party will be writing directly tomorrow to the PM,” TMC leader Derek O’ Brien told media persons.
Opposition leaders said National Conference, CPM, IUML, CPI, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Kerala Congress, MDMK and CPI(ML) Liberation are also among the signatories
Several Opposition parties have been demanding a special session of Parliament since the April-22 terror attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir that left 26 persons, mostly tourists, dead. The demand was also raised at an all-party meeting held to inform the lawmakers about Operation Sindoor under which Indian armed forces destroyed terror camps deep inside Pakistan and PoK and later bombed airbases of the neighbouring country.
