President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday rejected the mercy plea of Pawan Gupta, one of the four convicts in the 2012 Delhi gangrape case.
On Monday Gupta had filed a mercy plea before the President after the Supreme Court dismissed his curative petition.
He was the only one out of the four convicts to not have exhausted all the legal options.
On Monday, a Delhi court stayed the execution of the four Nirbhaya convicts and deferred the matter for further orders.
All the four convicts- Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh Singh were scheduled to be hanged at 6 am on March 3.
The court deferred the matter as the mercy petition of Gupta was pending before the President.
All four men were convicted and sentenced to death for raping a 23-year-old paramedic student in a moving bus in the national capital on the intervening night of December 16-17, 2012.
She passed away at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore while undergoing the treatment.
