28 confirmed cases of coronavirus in India: Dr Harsh Vardhan

India has reported 28 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far, Union Minister for Health Dr Harsh Vardhan said on Wednesday.

The 28 newly positive coronavirus cases include one in Delhi, one in Telangana, 16 Italian tourists who landed in India, one Indian driver who accompanied Italian tourists and six family contacts of the Delhi patient, while three patients from Kerala have already been recovered and discharged.

All the patients who have tested positive are under isolation at various hospitals.

Speaking at a press conference in Delhi today, Dr Harsh Vardhan said from now on, India has decided to universally screen passengers from all countries instead of the 12 currently covered.

“About 5,89,000 people have been screened at airports, over 15,000 at minor and major seaports and over 10 lakh screened at borders with Nepal,” the Health Minister said.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi announced that he would not participate in Holi celebrations, amid coronavirus fears.
