Arun Jaitley’s Kidney Transplant Surgery Successful: AIIMS

Arun JaitelyUnion Finance minister Arun Jaitley on Monday underwent a kidney transplant surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and is recovering well, the hospital said here.

“ Shri Arun Jaitley, Hon’ble minister of finance and corporate affairs, underwent renal transplant surgery today at AIIMS, Delhi. The surgery has been successful. Both the recipient and donor are stable and recovering well,” AIIMS said in a statement.

Jaitely, 65, was suffering from a kidney ailment and has been undergoing dialysis for the last one month. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday and taken to the operation theatre at 8 am today.

Jaitely had confirmed about his illness on April 6 in a tweet, “I am being treated for kidney related problems & certain infections that I have contracted,” “currently working from controlled environment at home”. he had tweeted.”The future course of my treatment would be determined by the doctors treating me,” he added.

ICSE ISC Results 2018 Declared

Council for Indian School Certificate Examination CISCE today declared the results of ICSE Class 10th and ISC Class 12th at 3 pm. Examinations for ICSE class 10 were held between February 26 and March 28, and examinations for ISC class 12 were held between February 7 and April 2, 2018. More than 81,000 candidates took the ISC Class 12 boards exam while around 1.84 lakh students appeared for the ICSE Class 10 board exam this year.

The students can check the results through cisce.org.

The results will also be available via SMS, the candidates have to type ICSE or ISC followed by their seven-digit unique ID code and send the message to 09248082883.

The pass percentage for ICSE class 10 is 98.51%, whereas the pass percentage for ISC class 12 is 96.21 %.

CISCE has reduced the pass percentage this year. A student will now need 33 instead of 35 per cent for passing ICSE exams and 35 instead of 40 per cent for ISC exams. “Among many recommendations made by the Inter-Board Working Group (IBWG), it was suggested that all boards in the country should have the same pass marks criteria,” said Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of CISCE.

MP Board Class 10th and 12th Results Declared

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday declared the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) Class 10 and Class 12 board examination result at 11:15 am.

The examinations were conducted in the month of March in which around 19 lakh candidates appeared.

The pass percentage for Class 10 result has been recorded at 66 per cent, while for Class 12 it is 68 per cent.

Shivani Pawar of Chhindwara has topped the Class 12 Humanities group this year scoring 476 marks out of 500. Ayushi Dhengula of Shivpuri has got the first rank in the Commerce group with 479 marks and Lalit Pachori of Shivpuri has secured 492 marks in the Science stream this year.

Nearly 50 killed due to thunderstorm in North India, UP worst hit

thunderstorm_800x600More than 53 people were killed and several others got injured on  May 13 as heavy rain and thunderstorm hit various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi-NCR etc Home Ministry said. Nearly 50 people were injured in Uttar Pradesh and 11 in Delhi.
Ministry spokesperson reveals that 39 people were killed in Uttar Pradesh alone, 9 in Andhra Pradesh, four in West Bengal and one person in Delhi-NCR.
Lakhimpur Kheri saw the maximum amount of damage with 84 houses and buildings collapsed partially or completely during the storm, followed by Sambhal where 31 buildings were totally damaged.
Government sources revealed that eight persons died in Bareilly. Kasganj reported six deaths while Barabanki reported five deaths. These deaths were caused by falling trees, collapsing of buildings, walls during the storm.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued directions to the district administration to distribute relief material to the victims’ families immediately.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that her government would provide assistance to affected families as well as to those whose houses and crops have been damaged.
The CM has further said that “We do not have control over the nature. We will not be able to bring back those who have died, but our government will be beside these families and help them in every possible manner.”

Petrol, Diesel Prices Hiked After 19 Days

dieselPrices of petrol and diesel were hiked by state-owned oil companies after a gap of 19 days on Monday. For nearly three weeks Oil companies had kept rates unchanged despite an increase in the input cost. Now after 2 days of Karnataka assembly elections they have reverted to the daily revision of petrol and diesel.

Indian Oil Corp (IOC) Chairman Sanjiv Singh last week said that the state-owned firms were “temporarily moderating” prices to avoid sharp spikes and panic among consumers.

State-owned oil companies are estimated to have lost about Rs 500 crore as they absorbed higher cost resulting from the spike in international oil rates and fall in rupee against the US dollar.

In Delhi, price of petrol was hiked by 17 paise from Rs 74.63 to Rs 74.80 per litre while price of diesel was increased by 21 paise from Rs 65.93 to Rs 66.14 per litre.

Price of petrol is at a 56 month peak while prices of diesel have touched a record high.

West Bengal panchayat polls: 2 killed, several injured

bengal-pollsVoting for West Bengal’s Panchayat polls opened at 7 am on May 14. Two people were allegedly killed and several injured in sporadic incidents of violence when clashes broke between members of the Jomi Jibika Poribesh O Bastutantra Andolan Committee (JJPOBC) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in south 24 Paraganas State Election Commission (SEC) officials said.

Taibur Gayen, a CPI (M) supporter was killed and two others were injured when crude bombs were thrown at them allegedly by TMC supporters at Amdanga.

Ariful Gazi (a TMC supporter) was shot dead in Kultali when he was going toward a booth. He was allegedly attacked by Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) supporters.

“We are patrolling with forces. We have detained a couple of people. The situation is under control so the voters can continue to vote and have nothing to fear,” said Additional SP Baruipur Sandeep Mondal.

Uttar Ghazipur booths 100 and 102 were allegedly captured during the morning violence. According to an eyewitness, the two groups – one belonging to the JJPOBC and the other, TMC faced off each other just past 7 am and started pelting stones at each other. The booth was subsequently captured by the TMC, alleged members of the JJPOBC.

BJP has accused ruling party TMC of letting loose a reign of terror in several parts of the district, especially in Amdanga area.

However, Jyotipriyo Mullick (senior minister) has denied the involvement of the TMC in the incident and accused BJP of terrorizing the voters.

Thunderstorm: Several Dead Across UP, Delhi

ThunderAt least eleven persons were killed and around 34 others were injured in the severe dust storm that hit Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Two people died and 18 others were injured in Delhi. Around 40 flights were diverted at the IGI Airport and metro services were hit in several parts of Delhi-NCR region.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath has directed all District Magistrates and Commissioners to provide immediate relief and medical assistance to the injured.

The deadly storm also hit West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh killing sixteen people, including four children.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter to condole the lives lost due to thunderstorm. PM prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and asked the officials to provide all the possible assistance.

Officials in the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted strong chance of heavy rain and squall in several parts of UP, Delhi and other States of Northern India in the next 48 to 72 hours.

West Bengal Panchayat Polls On Monday

Amid tight security, West Bengal is all set to vote for Panchayat polls on Monday. Voting will begin at 7 am in the morning and will end at 5 pm in the evening. The results will be declared on May 17.

Marked by Violence and clashes between the political parties, the date of filing of nominations was extended till April 23. A legal tussle was fought between the SEC, State Govt, BJP, Congress, Left front and TMC.

Currently, the TMC controls 90 per cent of the Panchayat seats of the state. According to West Bengal State Election Commission (SEC) sources, of the 48,650 seats in 3,358 gram panchayats, 16,814 were uncontested and of the 9,217 seats in 341 panchayat samitis, 3,059 were uncontested. In the 20 zilla parishads, 203 of the 825 seats were uncontested.

SEC said, tomorrow’s elections will be held in 621 zilla parishads and 6,157 panchayat samitis, besides 31,827 gram panchayats.

Security personnel from Assam, Odisha, Sikkim and Andhra Pradesh with police personnel of State and Kolkata Police will reinforce security arrangements for the polls.

Routine marches by security forces in various parts of the State were conducted as part of security arrangements.

Karnataka Assembly Elections: Siddaramaiah Says Ready To Sacrifice CM Post For Dalit

The Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said that he will not object if the Congress high command wants to appoint a Dalit as the new Karnataka CM but stated that the high command should not impose the decision.

Siddaramaiah in an interview to a Kannada TV said, if dalit CM is appointed without taking legislators into confidence, it will adversely impact governance owing to dissidence.

When asked if the party secures majority and wants to appoint a dalit as the CM, Siddaramaiah said: “I’ll tell them do it. I’m not against anybody.” While he left the decision to the high command, the chief minister told reporters that it will be difficult to impose any leader.

“The party will have to take opinion of the legislators and the high command has to agree to it,” Siddaramaiah said adding “I didn’t face any dissidence in my five-year term.”

Siddaramaiah said, he will restrict himself to Karnataka politics as the party will win more than 120 constituencies. “I hope I’ll be the CM again,” he stated.

The Congress leader while speaking to reporters in Chamundeshwari constituency said, “This will be my last election.” He ruled out contesting any polls in future but he asserted that “Till my last breath I’ll fight for social justice.”

The results of Karnataka Assembly elections will be declared on Tuesday.

Squall, Thunderstorm In Next Two Days: IMD

IMD has issued a warning for the hill states of J&K, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. These States are likely to witness squall and thunderstorm in next two days while parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab,UP, Delhi and Rajasthan may be struck by thunderstorms or dust storms  owing to fresh western disturbance over the region.

“Under the influence of a fresh western disturbance from May 13, fairly widespread to widespread precipitation is highly likely to occur over the western Himalayan region (J&K, Himachal and Uttarakhand) along with thunderstorm accompanied with squall (wind speed reaching 50-70 kmph) and hail at isolated places during the second half of week between May 10 and 16. “Isolated to scattered rainfall with isolated thunderstorm/dust storm is also likely in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, UP and Rajasthan during the same period,” the IMD said.

“Thunderstorms accompanied with squall (wind speed of 50-70 kmph) are ‘very likely’ at isolated places in East UP, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand,” it added.

Over the past fortnight several states have been witnessing erratic weather with winds blowing at speed of around 50 kmph.
