Police lathicharge, fire tear gas shells after locals clash with farmers at Singhu border

Clashes broke out on Friday between agitating farmers and a group of people claiming to be locals at the Singhu border as Delhi police resorted to lathi-charge and used tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

A group of locals reached the Singhu border protest site and asked the farmers to vacate the site. Both sides also pelted stones at each other.

In the violent clashes, Alipur SHO Pradeep Kumar was injured.

Earlier, Delhi CM and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal extended support to farmer leader Rakesh Tikait. “Your demands are valid. It is completely wrong to discredit the farmers’ movement, call them traitor and lodge false cases against farmer leaders,” he said.

AAP tweeted, “Farmers’ Leader Rakesh Tikait thanks CM @ArvindKejriwal for standing in support of farmers and providing all help during the crisis.”

Thousands of farmers have been protesting at the Singhu border since November 26 last year demanding the repealing of three farm laws.
