Hathras gang-rape case: Priyanka Gandhi demands Yogi Adityanath’s resignation, says he has no moral right to continue as CM

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and said that he has no moral right to continue as CM.

Taking to her microblogging site, Priyanka in a tweet said, “I was on the phone with the Hathras victim’s father when he was informed that his daughter had passed away. I heard him cry out in despair. He had just been telling me that all he wanted was justice for his child. Last night he was robbed of the chance to take his daughter home for the last time and perform her last rites.”

“@myogiadityanath RESIGN Instead of protecting the victim and her family, your government became complicit in depriving her of every single human right, even in death. You have no moral right to continue as Chief Minister,” Priyanka said in another tweet.

Earlier today Yogi Adityanath formed a three-member SIT to investigate the Hathras gangrape incident. The team will submit a report within 7 days. Yogi also directed for the trial of the case in a fast-track court.

On Tuesday, the 19-year-old Dalit woman, who was gang-raped in Hathras, died at Safdarjung hospital in Delhi. She was referred from Aligarg’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical college to Delhi a day earlier.

The Dalit woman was left paralysed with severe spinal cord injury after she was brutally gang-raped by four men in her village on September 14.
