Police finds aspiring model’s body in suitcase in Mumbai, friend arrested

Police arrested a student on October 15 for the murder of an aspiring model Mansi Dixit who hailed from Rajasthan. Her body was found in a suitcase dumped in Malad, Mumbai.

Initial probe suggests that Dixit was murdered by the accused, Muzammil Sayyed, who allegedly strangled her, stuffed her body in a suitcase and then dumped it in Malad. Police arrested the accused on October 15 evening.

The murder mystery was solved within two hours of her body being found in Malad.

According to the Bangur Nagar police, Dixit met Sayyed, on the internet. The two had met at Sayyed’s apartment in Andheri on October 15 afternoon and after an argument; Sayyed allegedly hit Dixit with a blunt object and then strangled her to death.

“The accused then stuffed the body in a suitcase and hired a private cab from Andheri to Malad. He then dumped the body near Mindspace, in the cover of mangroves and fled from the spot,” Police officer said.

Sangramsinh Nishanda, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XI), said “Using the licence plate number of the autorickshaw provided by our informant, we traced the movements of the suspect using the CCTV network. We saw him get off the autorickshaw at one point and get into a cab, which he took all the way to Oshiwara. We then sent a team to the spot.”

DCP Nishanda added, “We have lodged a first information report (FIR) under section 302 of IPC of the Indian Penal Code and have arrested the accused.”
