Maharashtra: 12 children given sanitiser instead of polio drops

In a shocking incident from Maharashtra’s Yavatmal, twelve children under five years of age were given sanitiser instead of polio drops. 

The children, aged between 1 and 5 were admitted to a hospital for further treatment. They were kept under observation and their condition is said to be stable.

The incident occurred on Sunday when over 2,000 children, ageing 1-5 years, had gathered along with their parents for the polio vaccination programme under the national immunisation drive.

According to the sources, some of the kids were given oral drops of sanitisers instead of the polio drops after which many started vomiting and showed symptoms of uneasiness. All were immediately rushed to the Government Medical College & Hospital for treatment.

Three officials including a health worker, doctor, and ASHA worker who were responsible for the drive were suspended immediately, sources said.
