Karnataka Election Results : Governor Invites BJP To Form Govt, BS Yeddyurappa To Be Sworn As Next CM

Karnataka Governor Valubhai Vala has invited BS Yeddyurappa of BJP to form the government first. Governor Vala gives Yeddyurappa fifteen days to prove his majority in a floor test. The Governor took the decision after consulting with former Attorney General Mukul Rohtagi, who favoured inviting the single largest party first, in this case the BJP with 104 MLAs. The JDS-Congress combine has 117 MLAs, more than the magic mark of 112. Congress has previously said that it would move the Supreme Court if denied the chance to form the government first.

Congress held a press conference with P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal and other senior leaders at the party headquarters in Delhi.

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram speaking to the reporters said, “Despite Congress and JDS having the numbers, we heard that the Governor may have invited the BJP to form the government. The two parties gave the governor a list of names of the MLAs, which proves a majority.”

“We sincerely hope that there will not be another outrage on the Constitution. Law cannot change according to the foot of the Chancellor,” What is standing in way of the Governor from extending invitation to leader of the alliance (HD Kumaraswamy), who clearly demonstrated that he commands the support of the majority? Chidambaram added.

Congress leader Kapil Sibal addressing the conference said, “Why is a minority party who doesn’t have the numbers on their side, being called to form the government? How is this legal? Now when they swear-in, we all know what people would do to get numbers in their favour. We have seen it in Goa and other states. The Governor should never get into such complications.”

Meanwhile, BS Yeddyurappa will be sworn in as the new Karnataka Chief Minister at 9.30 am on Thursday at Raj Bhavan.

BJP leader Murlidhar Rao in the press conference said, “Tomorrow BS Yeddyurappa will be taking oath (as CM of Karnataka) alone, after proving majority cabinet will be sworn in.”

Kumaraswamy Alleges: BJP Offered JD(S) MLAs Rs 100 Crore, Prakash Javadekar Trashes Charge

KP Tehelka

H D Kumaraswamy of JD(S) on Wednesday alleged that the BJP was trying to poach his party’s MLAs by offering them Rs 100 crore and cabinet post in the state government.

After being elected legislature party chief at a party meeting, Kumaraswamy claimed that the BJP was using black money and cautioned it from indulging in horse trading.
“JD(S) MLAs are being offered Rs 100 crore each. Where is this black money coming from? They are supposedly the servers of poor people and they are offering money today. Where are the income tax officials?” Kumaraswamy said.

While addressing a press conference Kumaraswamy said, “I have been offered from both sides. I am not saying this loosely. There’s a black spot on my father’s career because of my decision to go with the BJP in 2004 and 2005. So God has given me opportunity to remove this black spot. So I am going with Congress,” he added.

On the other hand, Union minister Prakash Javadekar today rubbished H D Kumaraswamy’s charge that the BJP was offering Rs 100 crore to JD(S) party MLAs in its bid to form a government in Karnataka, saying it is “imaginary”.
“Rs 100 crore, Rs 200 crore figures are imaginary. The BJP is not doing anything. This is the kind of politics the JD(S) and Congress play,” he told reporters here.

“We are not in the habit of horsetrading of any kind and therefore we are going by the rule book, and we are forming the government.” “That is our confidence. We have already met the Governor and submitted our plea and we are very sure to form government, a very stable government,” he added.

When asked, that the Congress was planning to approach the Supreme Court if the Governor does not invite JD(S)-Congress to form the next government, Javadekar said,”If somebody is approaching court or anything, It is within the parameters of a democracy,” he said.

Meanwhile, BJP’ s Karnataka chief B S Yeddyurappa met Governor Vajubhai Vala and asked him to allow him to take oath as chief minister as the party had emerged the single largest party.

MP government asks students to answer roll call with 'Jai Hind'

school

The students in Madhya Pradesh schools will now have to answer their roll call with ‘Jai Hind’.

As per the circular issued by the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh on May 15, it is now compulsory for the school children to say Jai Hind while answering their roll call.

The Madhya Pradesh School Education Department has directed all the schools across the state to ensure that instead of ‘yes sir’ or ‘yes ma’am’, the students must answer the roll call with Jai Hind.

“It has now been made compulsory for all 1.22 lakh government schools in state to answer attendance roll calls by saying Jai Hind instead of yes sir/ma’am. This is the decision taken by state government to instil patriotism among students,” reads the order signed by deputy secretary school education Pramod Singh.

Though the order does not mention private schools but the school education minister Vijay Shah had earlier said that an advisory will be issued to all the private schools in the state.

After getting permission from the chief minister on May 14, the school education department passed the order May 15.

Karnataka Election Results 2018, Who Will Form The New Government?

Karnataka election

As Counting is complete in 222 of 224 seats of the Karnataka assembly elections. No single party was able to win a majority of 112 seats, giving Karnataka a hung assembly, which lead to negotiations and post-poll alliances on Tuesday. The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 104 seats but fell short of complete majority. The Congress with 78 seats, and the JD(S) with 37 seats were quick to join hands and stake claim to form the government with 117 seats (with the support of 1 BSP and 1 Independent).

Both the parties on Tuesday evening met the Governor Vajubhai Vala and stake claim to form the government.

While BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Mr Yeddyurappa says he should be given the first chance, Congress leaders argue, as they with JD(S) have the numbers to form the govt.

Unhappy over Congress decision of supporting JD(S), few Congress MLAs from the Lingayat community are in touch with the BJP, sources.

Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah said, “All the Congress MLAs are intact and we are confident of forming the government.”

On being asked if Congress MLAs would be shifted somewhere else, DK Shivakumar, said, “Yes, definitely there is a plan. We have to safeguard our MLAs.” “They (BJP) are poaching our MLAs, we know that. There is a lot of pressure. But it not that easy as the two parties, Congress and the JD(S), have the necessary numbers. People are watching this,” he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “the BJP may be the single-largest party, but it doesn’t have the numbers and the Governor cannot take sides. Can a person who is there to save the Constitution, destroy it too? The Governor has to cut all its previous associations, be it BJP or RSS.”

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party national vice-president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe said that he is confident that Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala will respect the party’s position as the single-largest one and invite it to form the government.

BS Yeddyurappa met Governor Vala today and staked claim to form government in the state. “I met the Governor and handed over letters of support that we have. He told me he will take the appropriate decision as early as possible. We have full confidence he will take a decision immediately.”

Meanwhile JD(S) MLA A Manjunath said, “HD Kumaraswamy will be the CM and there will be a coalition government. That is the only truth. People want him to be the CM. These kinds of mechanisations will happen but the fact is that HD Kumaraswamy will be CM. We won’t be influenced by anyone,” he added.

All eyes are now on Governor Vala.

West Bengal Panchayat polls: Re-polling at 568 booths underway

West-Bengal11West Bengal State Election Commission (SEC) ordered re-polling on May 16 in 568 booths in 19 of 20 districts following demands by Opposition parties and reports of sporadic political violence that claims 26 lives in  the past two days.

The SEC confirms that counting of votes will be held on May 17.

Jhargram is the only district where there would be no re-polling.

SEC official confirms that the re-polling will start at 7 am in the morning and will end at 5 pm.

“Re-polling would be held at booths where alleged rigging, ballot box looting and false voting were reported. We have directed the district administrations to make preparations for the re-polling,” said another SEC officer.

Prime Minister Modi also raised grave concern over horrible political violence that broke out during voting in Panchayat polls in West Bengal.

“It was a matter of grave concern and was against the concept of democracy,” he said.

Partha Chatterjee, the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, has given a befitting response to PM Modi for his remark. “That the most of the murders and violence have been carried out by the BJP itself,” Chatterjee responded.

In 2013 Panchayat poll, re-polling took place at 21 booths.

Karnataka Polls 2018: Congress accuses BJP of poaching its MLAs

1Congress President Rahul Gandhi claims that BJP is trying to poach our leaders and has asked Ghulam Nabi Azad to put up a “full fight” and approach court if Karnataka governor calls the BJP first to form the government.
The Congress party is planning to move its MLAs to a resort in order to prevent “poaching by the BJP”.  Congress leader Madhu Goud Yaskhi alleges that the BJP tried to poach our MLAs. They even used the I-T department to threaten out party workers, he alleged.

Following the Karnataka polls counting that began on May 15, BJP has bagged 104 seats whereas the Congress has won in 78 constituencies, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s party JD(S) and its pre-poll ally BSP have 38 seats. No single party got a clear majority and the contesting parties BJP and the JDS-Congress alliance are trying hard to form the government in Karnataka. It now simply depends upon Governor Vajubhai Vala to decide whom to call first to form the next government in the state.

“We have 117 lawmakers, well above the majority mark,” outgoing Congress Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters.

However, BJP’s leader KS Eshwarappa says his party is in touch with “some” Congress and JD(S) MLAs as we hope to form an alliance.

“He first preside over a meeting of BJP lawmakers after which all of them will meet the governor and request him to allow the BJP to form the government on the grounds of being the single largest party,” said BJP’s chief ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurapa.

According to reports, Congress-JDS alliance, is likely to meet the governor on 16 May with a letter signed by 118 lawmakers in support of JD (S)leader HD Kumaraswamy, having “unconditional support” of the Congress Party.

The BJP at this moment is still short of eight members to form the majority but expected to get the first shot at the government formation. The party must have 112 seats to form a government in 224-members Karnataka assembly.
