Bomb scare halts New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express at Ghaziabad

The New Delhi Howrah Rajdhani Express was halted at Ghaziabad for two hours after a call was received informing about the presence of a bomb on the train.

A bomb call was received at New Delhi Railway Station, minutes after the train departed from New Delhi.

On receiving the information, the police along with a bomb squad and dogs were immediately pressed into action.

The train was completely evacuated at Ghaziabad station and thorough search was done to find the bomb but police did not find anything, later the train departed from Ghaziabad.

The police is now tracing the caller.

PM Modi to address farmers of three states in Punjab on July 11

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 11 will address farmers of three states (Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan) at Malout town of Muktsar District in Punjab.

The  decision of the rally has reportedly been taken on the initiative of SAD president Sukhbir Badal after central government announced steep hike in MSP of Paddy and other kharif crops.

State unit of BJP would meet at Jalandhar to discuss the preparations of the rally. It will be a joint rally of Akali – BJP and both the parties will try their best to make it successful.

Former CM Prakash Singh Badal spoke to the district authorities and confirmed about PM’s visit.

Malout, which is situated close to the border of other two states, will be the ideal venue for the rally. 

Twitter suspends over 70 mn fake accounts in past two months

Twitter has suspended more than 70 million fake accounts worldwide in May and June during a process to crackdown on suspicious accounts.

The series of account suspensions by the world’s largest social network is one of several recent campaigns by Twitter to monitor its platform and stop spam and abuse of fake accounts.

Last month, Twitter announced “new measures to fight abuse and trolls, new policies on hateful conduct and violent extremism, and are bringing in new technology and staff to fight spam and abuse.”

Focusing on improving the health of conversations on Twitter means “ensuring people have access to credible, relevant, and high-quality information on Twitter,” Del Harvey, Vice President of Trust and Safety of Twitter, said in an official blog post in June. 

“In May 2018, our systems identified and challenged more than 9.9 million potentially spammy or automated accounts per week. That’s up from 6.4 million in December 2017, and 3.2 million in September. Due to technology and process improvements during the past year, we are now removing 214% more accounts for violating our spam policies on a year-on-year basis.” Twitter said in an official blog post in June. 

Three civilians die, as Army opens fire after stone-pelting in Kulgam

Three civilians, including a teenage girl died as the army allegedly fired at a group of protesters in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.

According  to locals, clashes broke out when security forces entered Mishpora and Hawoora villages in Kulgam district for a cordon and search operation (CASO).

The deceased have been identified as Shakir Ahmad (22), Irshad Ahmad (20) and 16-year-old girl Andleeb.

As per sources, locals resorted to stone pelting, after army entered the villages, forcing the security personnel to retaliate by opening firing at the protesters, killing three civilians and injuring five others.

Government has suspended internet services in the area, after protests triggered due to the death of the three civilians.

Heavy rain lashes Maharashtra; affects train services

Heavy monsoon rains have lashed Maharashtra and areas of Mumbai on Saturday, affecting train services in the region. 6.3 mm and 5.2 mm rainfall have been recorded by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Santa Cruz Observatory and Colaba Observatory.

Areas like Malad, Powai, Bhandup and parts of Thane and Kalyan witnessed a heavy downpour.

Due to heavy rains the central Railway trains were running late by 10 minutes, while water-logging has been reported between Vithalwadi and Kalyan.

As a precautionary measure train services have been stopped between Badlapur and Kalyan Railway Station. 

IMD has issued a forecast of heavy rains for the places of the island City and suburbs for the next 24 hours. 

Netflix launches its first Indian Drama Series : Sacred Games

The eight-part series, filmed mainly in Hindi and dubbed in various other languages is the first of seven Indian series that Netflix has commissioned.

“India is seeing the biggest and fastest investment in content for any country we have launched in,” said Erik Barmack, Netflix’s vice-president of international originals. Most of all, though, the 900-page book is a story about Mumbai. Sprawling yet focused, there is something cinematic in the writing.

“Right from the beginning even before the book was published there was already interest in doing something cinematic with it. Before the book was released (in 2006) it had been optioned by a major feature film company in Hollywood. They tried for a couple of years but it became clear to both them and me that it needed a much longer format,” said Chandra on the phone from the US.

In 2016 The company launched in India , Subscriptions start at 500 rupees (around £5) a month.

Other Indian series in the pipeline include Ghoul, a horror set in a covert detention centre, and Crocodile, a murder mystery set in Goa.

The availability of cheap data and the burgeoning number of smartphone users have made India one of the world’s fastest-growing internet markets.

Yet Netflix faces stiff competition from homegrown apps like Hotstar and Voot, while Amazon Prime has 11 million monthly subscribers, compared with Netflix’s five million.

CBI arrests 2 retired Bank of India officials in Rs 2654 crore loan fraud case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested two senior retired officers of Bank of India in connection with alleged loan fraud of Rs 2,654 crore by Vadodara-based Diamond Power Infrastructure Ltd. (DPIL).

According to CBI, V V Agnihotri and P K Shrivastava, retired GM and DGM respectively had allegedly granted undue favours in the sanction of credit limits to DPIL in year 2008. The loan was declared a non-performing asset in 2016-17.

CBI in an FIR had said that the promoters of DPIL Suresh Narain Bhatnagar and his sons Amit and Sumit were arrested in April this year. The company which manufactures electric cables and equipment, had fraudulently availed Credit Facilities from a Consortium of 11 Banks (Public Sector and Private Sector) since 2008, with an outstanding amount of Rs. 2654.40 crore as on June 29, 2016.

The Consortium includes Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, ICICI Bank, Allahabad Bank, Axis Bank, Dena Bank, SBI, IOB, IFCI, EXIM Bank of India and Corporation Bank and other financial institutions.

It is alleged that the company, with active collaboration with officials from various banks, managed to get enhanced credit facilities, in spite of the fact that they were already appearing in the Reserve Banks of India’s defaulter’s List.

Shashi Tharoor gets regular bail in Sunanda Pushkar death case

A Delhi court on Thursday granted regular bail to Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on a personal bond of ₹1 lakh with one surety in the Sunanda Pushkar death case.

Shashi Tharoor had moved the court on July 3 and was granted anticipatory bail on July 5 after he was named as an accused in the case and summoned by the police.

The congress MP, informed the court that he had already been granted anticipatory bail in the case by a sessions court.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal then granted regular bail to Tharoor on a personal bail bond of Rs 1 lakh with one surety of like amount .

Sunanda Pushkar, 51, was found dead at a five-star hotel in Delhi on January 17, 2014.

England won by 5 wickets in second T20I in Cardiff

England beat India by five wickets in the second T20I at Cardiff to level the series 1-1. Alex Hales emerged as a star. Hales smashed a six and a four in the last over when 12 runs were required to win the match. Indian team had a bad day as their batsmen and bowlers failed to impress on the field. Indian Skipper Virat Kohli complemented the opposition team stating England were the better team on the day.

Kohli said, “When you lose 3 wickets in the first 6 overs for 30 runs it’s difficult to come back. I thought a partnership would get us to 145, and that would have been competitive. England made good use of the wicket which had some extra bounce. We were pushed back initially in the first six.”

“I think we competed quite well but England were the better side, that’s why they came through today. We need to focus on the next game,” he added.

Meanwhile, England skipper Eoin Morgan praised his boys for their all-round effort “To come back from Old Trafford, we played quite well. When there is bounce in the wicket there is certainly a chance to take wickets upfront, and we did that,” Morgan said.

“Willey did well and Jake Ball was great on debut. Alex was fantastic today. We normally play spin well, and the guys were really confident and they stuck to the plans and executed extremely well today,” he added.

Tussle Between LG and Kejriwal Continues Over Services Department

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with his deputy Manish Sisodia met LG Anil Baijal on Friday at Raj Niwas. Kejriwal and Sisodia had sought meeting with LG after Delhi Services Department refused to abide by sisodia’s order on transfer decisions’.

The meeting happened two days after the Supreme court’s verdict on Wednesday, in which the five-judge bench headed by CJI Dipak Misra had ruled that the Delhi government does not need the concurrence of the Lieutenant Governor for its decisions but has to only keep him posted. The LG should not act as an “adversary having a hostile attitude” towards the government but act as a facilitator. “The LG and the council of ministers must attempt to settle any point of difference by way of discussion and dialogue.”.

After meeting Baijal, Kejriwal accused the Centre of advising LG to ignore that part of SC order, which restricts LG’s powers to only 3 subjects. “MHA has advised LG to ignore that part of SC order, which restricts LG’s powers to only 3 subjects. Meanwhile, Delhi LG Anil Baijal assured Kejriwal of continued support and cooperation. “Met Hon’ble CM @ArvindKejriwal & Hon’ble Dy. CM @msisodia . Assured them of my continued support & cooperation in the interest of good governance & overall development of Delhi as per the letter and spirit of Constitution,” LG Baijal tweeted.
