An encounter broke out on Monday morning between security forces and militants in Sangran village of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir.
A cordon and search operation was launched by security forces after receiving a tip off about the presence of militants in Sangran village.
As the security forces zeroed in on the suspected area, the hiding militants opened fire leading to the encounter.
Security forces said, at least two militants are believed to be hiding in the residential area.
Jammu and Kashmir police tweeted, “Exchange of fire between Security forces & #Terrorists at #Shopian. Information is preliminary in nature.”
