A 76-year-old man who died in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district on Tuesday has tested positive for coronavirus, Health Minister B Sriramulu said late Thursday night.
B Sriramulu in a tweet said, “The 76 year old man from Kalbauragi who passed away & was a suspected #COVID19 patient has been Confirmed for #COVID19. The necessary contact tracing, isolation & other measures as per protocol are being carried out.”
This is the first death in the country linked to coronavirus.
The man had returned to India on February 29 after a month-long stay in Saudi Arabia, sources said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday urged the country to not panic and assured that the government is vigilant and taking all the measures to contain the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
