DMK president MK Stalin pays tribute to M Karunanidhi on his birth anniversary

DMK president MK Stalin on Monday paid tribute to party patriarch and his father M Karunanidhi on his 95th birth anniversary in Chennai.

Stalin, along with his party cadres, showered the colossal photo of Karunanidhi with flowers.

M Karunanidhi, five-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu breathed his last in August last year. He had been in and out of hospital for more than a year before his death.

Karunanidhi was born on June 3, 1924 in the village of Thirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district. He had worked in the Tamil film industry as a screenwriter before entering politics. He has also made contributions to Tamil literature, having written stories, novels and plays.

Karunanidhi entered the Tamil Nadu assembly by winning the Kulithalai seat in the 1957 election at the age of 33. In 1961, he became the DMK treasurer and in the year 1962 he became the deputy leader of opposition in the state assembly and when the DMK came to power in 1967, he became the Minister for Public Works.
