Atleast 10 people died in a powerful explosion in a stone quarry in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district on Friday.
According to police officials, the explosion occurred when regular quarring work was being carried out in the quarry in Haith Belgal village of Alur Mandal in Kurnool district.
At least 20 workers were present at the spot when the gelatin sticks used for blasting the quarry exploded. According to police, few dead bodies were recovered from the spot, whereas the injured were rushed to the hospital.
All the victims are migrant workers, hailing from Odisha and came here for work, officials said.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the incident. He directed district authorities to ensure appropriate treatment to the injured.
