Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh chief minister has suspended two IAS officers, JB Singh, the district magistrate (DM) of Gonda, and Prashant Kumar, the DM of Fatehpur over illegal distribution of grain to the poor people under the Public Distribution system.
“DM Fatehpur Kumar and DM Gonda Singh have been suspended by the chief minister after he took serious note of irregularities,” an official spokesman said.
“In Fatehpur, irregularities were found in the wheat purchase. Fixing responsibility at senior level, the chief minister has ordered the suspension of the DM. On May 31, during an inspection by the food department, no wheat purchase was found from May 13 till date and there was no reason mentioned for it,” he added.
In Gonda region, irregularities were found in the distribution of food grains and the DM’s supervision and control was found to be very lenient, due to which DM Singh was also suspended, the spokesman confirmed.
Food Commissioner has lodged the FIRs against a number of officials, including Rajiv Kumar, district supply officer and Ajay Vikram Singh, district food marketing officer in Fatehpur for not distributing token to farmers for wheat purchase.
“Corruption is on the rise and that is the only reason…People are working with their own mind. The chief minister should work harder and look into this. They must, otherwise it won’t work,” said Shyam Prakash, a BJP lawmaker from the Hardoi district.
