Government To Withdraw Stone-Pelting Cases Against Minors In Kashmir, Says Rajnath Singh

On a two day visit to Jammu & Kashmir, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, on June 7, said that the government will withdraw stone-pelting cases against minors.

Keeping in mind the importance of Ramadan in the state, a decision on extending the ongoing suspension of anti-militancy operations will be taken after reviewing the situation in the state, he said.

In 2017, the Union Home Ministry had ordered to withdraw cases against youths who are involved in stone pelting in the Valley. Singh also appealed to the youth not to follow the path of destruction and added that the government wants youth to get involved in sports activities and even lauded the state government’s efforts for improving the sports infrastructure.

“Funds will be provided for promotion of water sports at Mansar and Pahalgam… Funds will be arranged for development of sports infrastructure,” Singh said.

Singh also unveiled a list of projects related to creating ample job opportunities in different sectors to attract youth. He further added this will help “change the fate and face of Kashmir.”

Singh said, “Many kids from here are in international sports… more than 85 kids (from the state) are gold medalists.”

“We will help the youth to be recruited in armed forces. The centre will help the youth of J&K in finding their way. But I appeal to the young generation of the state to not indulge in any kind of wrongdoings,” Singh added.

He also added that the government is ready to hold dialogue with all “right-minded” people in the state to bring peace.
