A US Sailor opened fire at three civilian workers at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard on Wednesday, before taking his own life, authorities said
Security forces responded to reports of a shooting at the shipyard around 2.30 pm local time. The base was placed on lockdown for several hours, sources said.
The incident took place at the vicinity of the shipyard’s Dry Dock 2.
Officials said on Wednesday evening that investigators were working to determine the circumstances of the incident at the Pearl Harbor shipyard.
Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in a tweet said, “Officials at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam report the shooting incident at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard has been secured. One person is confirmed dead. The shooter has been identified as a U.S. Sailor.”
Authorities said the names of the victims would not be released until the next of kin have been notified.
