Kashmir: Four soldiers killed in avalanches

Four soldiers were killed in two separate incidents of avalanches in north Kashmir, an army official said.

Three soldiers were killed after being hit by an avalanche in the Tangdhar area of Kupwara district.

In another incident army soldier died when an army patrol was caught in a blizzard in Gurez area in Bandipora district.

According to the sources, bodies of all the deceased have been recovered by rescue teams.

A number of casualties were reported in recent weeks.

On November 18, four soldiers and two civilian porters were killed in an avalanche in the Siachen Glacier.

The soldiers were part of a patrolling group of eight; they died due to extreme hypothermia after they were stuck under the snow for long hours, confirmed Indian Army.
