At least eleven persons were killed and around 34 others were injured in the severe dust storm that hit Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Two people died and 18 others were injured in Delhi. Around 40 flights were diverted at the IGI Airport and metro services were hit in several parts of Delhi-NCR region.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath has directed all District Magistrates and Commissioners to provide immediate relief and medical assistance to the injured.
The deadly storm also hit West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh killing sixteen people, including four children.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter to condole the lives lost due to thunderstorm. PM prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and asked the officials to provide all the possible assistance.
Officials in the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted strong chance of heavy rain and squall in several parts of UP, Delhi and other States of Northern India in the next 48 to 72 hours.
