Rohingya repatriation: J&K governor says biometric details of refugees will be collected in 2 months

Satya Pal Malik, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) governor, on November 5 said that the biometric details of Rohingya refugees living in the state will be collected within the time frame of two months.

Governor Malik while addressing Media during the bi-annual ‘Darbar Move’ said, “Biometric details of Rohingyas will be collected within two months.”

The remarks from J&K Governor Malik came days after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said that all states have been asked to identify Rohingya refugees and collect their biometric data, a compiled report of which will be sent to Myanmar.

The union minister’s directions came four months after he wrote a letter to the J&K Government, saying, “Such illegal migrations pose serious challenges and have security implications since some of the migrants have been found to have indulged in illegal activities and are vulnerable to radicalization.”

On Rohingya’s repatriation, the union minister had asked other political parties to not politicize the Centre’s efforts to identify them.
