SP MP Azam Khan asked to apologise for sexist remarks in Parliament

Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Azam Khan on Friday has been asked to apologise in the Lok Sabha for his sexist comments made during a debate on the Triple Talaq Bill.

The Speaker called the meeting after MP’s in Lok Sabha, including ministers, demanded strict action against Azam Khan’s remarks on Rama Devi.

Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Nirmala Sitharaman were among the leaders who demanded an apology from the SP leader.

Smriti Irani said Azam’s comment was a blot on all legislators, including men. We cannot remain silent spectators to it.

She further added the entire nation watched what happened. She warned Khan that he can’t misbehave and get away.

Numerous members from various parties, including the BJP, Congress, NCP, Trinamool Congress, BJD had urged the House to send a strong message against such conduct.

“We look towards you, I appeal to you for exemplary action against Azam,” said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to Speaker Om Prakash Birla in the Lok Sabha.
