Rajasthan SKM Horns up in Support of Punjab Farmers

by JAG MOHAN THAKEN

Rajasthan: Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) Rajasthan has come up in support of Punjab farmers and warned that the Bhagwant Mann led Punjab State Government and Modi led BJP-RSS Government at the Centre who want to crush the farmers protest are bound to be defeated eventually.

The State SKM has called upon all the farmers of the country including the farmers of Rajasthan to mobilize against the police repression.

SKM Rajasthan has declared that farmers will never surrender to corporate forces and police repression and are committed to nationwide farmer agitations against NPFAM, MSP@C2+50%, loan waivers necessary to solve the agrarian crisis.

In a statement shared with our representative, the SKM has declared that by building a broad unity of Kisan-Mazdoor Sangathan and Jan Sangathan and learning from the experiences of the movements, we will strengthen the issue-based unity.

The movement will be intensified in Rajasthan as well as in the whole country to protect the right to oppose the wrong policies of the government and against repression.

Rajasthan SKM has called upon all its member organizations to be ready for widespread and nationwide struggles soon.

On the call of Samyukta Kisan Morcha, the farmers of Rajasthan protested across Rajasthan on March 28 against the police repression in Punjab and submitted a memorandum to be forwarded to the president of India.

The farmers’ union accused the AAP-led Punjab State Government of bowing down to corporate forces and the corporate-supported Central Government. As per the decision of the National Coordination Committee of Samyukta Kisan Morcha, Samyukta Kisan Morcha Rajasthan protested in all districts of the state against police repression on the farmers’ movement in Punjab.

The general meeting organized on the occasion of the demonstration was addressed by farmer leaders such as State Joint Secretary of All India Kisan Sabha, Dr. Sanjay “Madhav”, former MLA Balwan Poonia and State President of Bharatiya Kisan Union, Rajaram Meel.

Addressing the public meeting, Dr. Sanjay Madhav said that “On the instructions of the Bhagwant Mann government, the Punjab Police arrested and jailed 350 farmer leaders and activists, including Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Shravan Singh Pandher. He said that the police bulldozed the tents and platforms of the agitating farmers at the Khanauri and Shambhu borders and forcibly removed and confiscated tractor trailers, trolleys and other equipment.

Similar repression was carried out across Punjab on 3 and 4 March 2025, more than 800 SKM activists, including octogenarians like Balbir Singh Rajewal, Rulda Singh Mansa, were arrested and jailed.

Dr. Madhav alleged that the clear message of such a series of police repression is that the AAP-led state government wants to forcibly suppress the right to protest against corporate policies that are wreaking havoc on the lives and livelihoods of farmers. But whether it is Punjab, the country or the world, history is witness to the fact that any attempt to suppress the peaceful movement of the people has never succeeded. This police repression will also give birth to another bigger and stronger struggle which will ultimately uproot the totalitarian oppressive elements from power.

Addressing the gathering, former MLA Balwan Poonia said that it is the strength of the farmers of Punjab that despite the arrest of the main leaders and workers of SKM, they organized massive peaceful protests across Punjab on 5 March 2025 against police repression and forced the Bhagwant Mann government to release all the arrested and jailed workers.

Addressing the gathering, Rajaram Meel said that the borders of Punjab at Khanauri and Shambhu border were not blocked by the agitating farmers but were closed by the police and administration of Haryana on the orders of the BJP-RSS government at the Centre when a section of farmer organizations was struggling for long pending demands like MSP@C2+50%, loan waiver etc.

In the press release, it has been said that the Narendra Modi-led central government is responsible for ensuring remunerative prices for agricultural products and resolving the farmers’ agitation by freeing farmers from the burden of debt, but the government has completely failed in discharging its responsibility.

SKM alleged that today, 31 farmers are committing suicide every day in our country. In the last ten years, the Modi government has waived corporate loans of more than Rs 17 lakh crore, but the central government is not ready to waive even a rupee of farmers’ debt.

Punjab has been the centre of farmers’ agitation in the country and corporate forces want to crush the farmers’ agitation in Punjab so that there is no hindrance in looting and exploiting farmers all over India.

The speakers alleged that the AAP-led state government is bowing down to corporate forces and is coming under the pressure of the corporate-supported central government.
