Rahul Gandhi accepts defeat, congratulates PM Modi

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accepted the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and said, “people of the country are the leaders”. He also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the victory.

“As I said in the campaign, people of the country are the leaders. I congratulate @narendramodi and the BJP. I also thank our Karyakartas and our leaders,” Rahul said.

“My philosophy is to always spread the message of love and I will continue to do so,” Rahul added.

Addressing a brief press conference at the party headquarters, Rahul also accepted defeat in the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency and congratulated Union Minister Smriti Irani for the victory.

Rahul said he respected the verdict given by the people of Amethi and hoped that Smriti Irani would treat the people of Amethi with love and take care of them.

“I accept the verdict of the people of India Congratulations to the winners, Mr Modi & the NDA. Thank you to the people of Wayanad for electing me as your MP. Thank you also to the people of Amethi. Thank you Congress, workers & leaders, for your hard work in this campaign.,” Rahul said in a tweet.

Rahul said his party’s fight against the BJP was ideological and it will continue.
