President Trump requests PM Modi to release US order of hydroxychloroquine stockpile

US President Donald Trump on Saturday said that he has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release the US order of Hydroxychloroquine tablets that can be used to treat COVID-19 patients.

During a press briefing at the White House, Trump said that he spoke to PM Modi over the phone and requested him to give serious consideration to releasing the hold it put on a US order for hydroxychloroquine.

Trump said that he may take Hydroxychloroquine, if needed.

“I will have to talk to my doctors,” he added.

Trump said he would appreciate if India releases the amount that the US has ordered.

Before Trump’s announcement, PM Modi in a tweet said, “Had an extensive telephone conversation with President @realDonaldTrump. We had a good discussion, and agreed to deploy the full strength of the India-US partnership to fight COVID-19.”

The number of coronavirus cases in the United States has crossed 300,000, while the death toll passed 8,100.

Currently the US has the highest number of COVID-19 cases while Italy has the greatest number of deaths.
