Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for corridor linking Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan’s Kartarpur to Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur to facilitate the visa-free travel of Indian Sikh pilgrims to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.
At the ground-breaking ceremony of Kartarpur corridor, Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu showered heaps of praises in his speech “Mera yaar dildaar”, the Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, a good friend who has delivered on his promise to establish the Kartarpur corridor.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said the senior Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has gained popularity in Pakistan especially in the country’s Punjab province, where he could win an election.
“The Congress leader can come and contest election here in Pakistan’s Punjab, he’ll win,” Khan said.
Imran Khan also expressed disappointment over Sidhu’s criticism by the Indian media, calling it unfair and unsubstantiated.
On Monday Vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu and Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh had laid foundation stone of a road from Dera Baba Nanak town in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, which will connect the Kartarpur Corridor.
India had proposed the corridor to Pakistan about 20 years back.
Last week, both nations had announced that they would develop the corridor on their respective side of the border to help Indian pilgrims visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.
