Maha RS poll results not shocking; NCP got an extra vote from ‘opposite side’ independent MLA: Pawar

After the BJP won three out of six Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra, NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday said he was not shocked to see the results, and added that his party received one extra vote that came from an independent legislator, who was tilted towards the opposite side.
BJP candidates – Union minister Piyush Goyal and former state minister Anil Bonde, and Dhananjay Mahadik – won the fiercely contested election conducted on Friday. Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut, NCP’s Praful Patel and Congress’ Imran Pratapgarhi also came out victorious. Sena’s second candidate Sanjay Pawar lost to BJP’s Mahadik.

“I am not shocked to see the results. If you see the votes polled by every candidate of (Maha Vikas Aghadi allies) NCP, Shiv Sena and Congress, they received the votes as per the quota. Only Praful Patel (of NCP) received one extra vote and I know from where it came. That was not MVA’s vote, it was from the opposite side,” Pawar told reporters here.

He added that for the sixth seat, contested by Shiv Sena, there was a big gap, but MVA showed courage and put in efforts. BJP had more Independent MLAs on their side, but for both, BJP and MVA, the number of votes were not sufficient,” he said.

The MVA made a courageous attempt to win the sixth seat despite falling short of a few numbers, but one has to accept the miracle, in which BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis succeeded in weaning away independents and smaller parties who would have supported the MVA, Pawar added.

“That is why this gap of votes was there,” he said. He said the quota for first preference vote for Patel (NCP), Pratapgarhi (Congress) and Raut (shiv sena) was intact.

“In fact, Praful Patel, received one extra vote from a BJP-backed independent MLA, who voted for Patel after informing me about it. The independent legislator has worked with me earlier,” Pawar said.

The NCP chief said there was no threat to the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government in the state.

“The sixth seat was a risk for the MVA, but Uddhav Thackeray took the risk. In politics, one has to take risks,” he said.

Delay in services on Delhi Metro’s Violet Line

Services on Delhi Metro’s Violet Line were delayed on Saturday morning due to some technical issues.
The route connects Kashmere Gate in Delhi to Ballabgarh in Haryana.

“Violet Line update. Delay in services between Kashmere Gate and Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabgarh). Normal services on all other lines,” the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tweeted.

More details were awaited from the transporter. Commuters took to Twitter to share that they were waiting for trains for a long time at stations on their way to work or other destinations.

Delhi Metro passengers, largely office-goers, on Thursday had faced inconvenience when services on its Blue Line were delayed for over two hours due to a technical snag.

The Blue Line connects Dwarka Sector-21 in Delhi to Noida Electronic City, along with a branch line to Vaishali.

This was the second time in the week when the entire Blue Line had been impacted by a glitch.

On June 6, a large number of commuters on the Blue Line had faced hardship as services across the corridor were impacted for nearly an hour-and-a-half due to a technical snag caused by a bird hit.

Two ‘hybrid’ terrorists arrested in Kashmir

Security forces arrested two ‘hybrid terrorists’ linked to the banned Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit in Sopore area of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Friday.

The terrorists were arrested at a check point jointly set up by the police, CRPF and Army at Gurseer in Sopore area late on Thursday night, the officials said.

They said incriminating material, arms and ammunition have been recovered from their possession.

Giving details of the arrest, a police spokesman said security forces intercepted two persons coming from Darpora-Delina towards Seer who tried to escape from the spot but were apprehended.

“The arrested duo has been identified as Faizan Ahmad Paul (resident of Shopian) and Muzamil Rashid Mir (resident of Pulwama). Two pistols, two magazines and five pistol rounds were recovered from their possession,” the spokesman said.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested persons are hybrid terrorists of the LeT and were in search of an opportunity to carry out attacks on security forces as well as civilians including outside labourers.

‘Hybrid terrorist’ is a term coined by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir to describe those ultras who carry out a subversive task assigned to them by their handlers before slipping back into normal life.

They are activated by the handlers on need basis, a tactic that helps them to evade the radar of security forces for little longer than those who join the ranks full time.

RBI retains growth projection at 7.2 pc for FY23

The Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday retained its growth projection at 7.2 %  for the current fiscal on the back of improvement in urban demand and gradual recovery in rural India.

Unveiling the third monetary policy for the current fiscal, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the Indian economy remained resilient, and the central bank will continue to support growth.

The RBI expects growth in the first quarter of the current fiscal at 16.2 %, which will taper to 4 % by the fourth quarter.

He, however, cautioned that there are risks from the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

The central bank earlier in April slashed the GDP growth projection for 2022-23 to 7.2 % from its earlier forecast of 7.8 %.

On Tuesday, the World Bank cut India’s economic growth forecast for the current fiscal to 7.5 % as rising inflation, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical tensions taper recovery.

It was the second time that the World Bank has revised its GDP growth forecast for India in the current fiscal 2022-23 (April 2022 to March 2023). In April, it trimmed the forecast from 8.7 % to 8 % and now it is projected at 7.5 %.

The GDP growth compares to an 8.7 % expansion in the previous 2021-22 fiscal.
India’s economy grew by 4.1 % in the January-March quarter of 2021-22.

Rift still exists in Haryana Congress even after return of 8 leaders

Rift between groups of Congress party in Haryana state have not come to halt rather have increased in-spite of return of eight heavy weight leaders in the party and Congress high command has given responsibility to former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda also leader of opposition in Haryana Vidhan Sabha and newly appointed Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Udai Bhan also quite near and dear to Hooda to build strong Congress infrastructure in the state. It is an open fact that Congress in Haryana state had come up as second major political party in the state in 2019 Vidhan Sabha polls only due to Hooda having majority of  Congress MLAs his followers. Former HPCC president Kumari Shelja had expelled four MLAs from Congress allegedly involved in anti-party activities when denied tickets and few of them contested 2019 Vidhan Sabha polls against Congress candidates. Congress failed to  grow and form government in the state after 2019 Vidhan Sabha polls in-spite of the fact having good strength of party MLAs in the state due to rift going on between the supporters of Hooda leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha and HPCC president Kumari Shelja.

The return of eight heavy weight political leaders in Congress with the influence of Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his son Deepender Hooda also a Rajya Sabha member has failed to bring miracles in sinking Congress party in the state. Among those eight returned to Congress with the efforts of Hooda include were holding the chairs of former minister, Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) and MLA in past when Congress was ruling in the state include Sharda Rathore from MLA from Ballabhgarh Vidhan Sabha constituency  and a CPS,  Subhash Choudhary former MLA from Jagadhari Vidhan Sabha constituency and also state minister,  Rakesh Kamboj former MLA from Indri Vidhan sabha constituency,  Parminder Dhull former MLA from Julana Vidhan sabha constituency, Ram Niwas Ghodela former MLA from Barwala Vidhan sabha constituency,  Zile Ram Sharma former MLA from Asandh Vidhan sabha constituency and CPS, Naresh Selwal former MLA from Uklana Vidhan sabha constituency and Raj Kumar Valmiki for MLA from Nilokheri Vidhan Sabha constituency and CPS, however are yet unsuccessful  to strengthen Congress network in the state and likely to give a tough fight to the candidates of prominent political parties in the state including ruling BJP-JJP contestants in 2024 Vidhan Sabha polls.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda given assurance to Congress high command to unite all party leaders in the state said that in case right selection of candidates would have been made during 2019 Vidhan Sabha polls today Congress would have been ruling in the state. He said, none of the political leaders now returned to Congress has been given assurance to contest in 2024 Vidhan Sabha polls and have taken decision to return to Congress at their own choice, but only winning candidates will be given chances to contest coming Vidhan Sabha polls in 2024. Sources reveal, many Congress leaders are unhappy over Congress high command decision to appoint Udai Bhan as party president in the state as such tension still exists rather increased among Congress leaders in Haryana likely to weaken party further in the state. Information further reveals, a group of Congress leaders in the state are not cooperating newly appointed president Udai Bhan and are unable to digest the return of eight powerful political leaders in the party already accepted by Congress high command. Information also reveals, state convener Vivek Bansal, too, is silent over the return of eight leaders.

Boy kills mother as she stops him from playing PUBG

A 16-year-old boy allegedly shot dead his mother as she stopped him from playing the online game PUBG, police said on Wednesday.

The boy was addicted to the online game and could not take his mother preventing him to play it, so he shot her dead, they said.

Police said they recovered the partially decomposed body of the woman on Tuesday night and sent it for post-mortem. The boy was apprehended.

The minor fatally shot her mother on Saturday and kept the body locked inside a room of their house here for two days before informing his father, an Army personnel posted in West Bengal, about the incident, they said.

His nine-year-old sister was also at home when the incident took place. He allegedly threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone and used a room freshener to hide the smell of the decomposed body, police said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Qasim Abidi said, “The incident took place in Yamunapuram Colony under PGI police station area. The deceased used to live with her two children at the house. Her husband, who is a JCO (Junior Commissioned Officer), is currently posted in West Bengal.”

“The 16-year-old boy was addicted to online game PUBG. He told us that his mother used to stop him from playing the game, this is why he killed her. The minor used the registered firearm of his father to kill the mother,” he said.

Police said they have recovered the weapon. According to the police, the minor shot dead the mother on Saturday night and took her younger sister to another room. He locked the room where the body was lying.

“On Tuesday evening when the smell of the decomposed body became severe, he informed his father about the incident. The father called the neighbours and they informed the police,” Abidi said. “The boy initially tried to weave a false story around the incident but finally revealed the truth,” he said.
