Bhagel slams ED over terrorising Cong workers, dares BJP to fight elections democratically

New Delhi :  Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Bhagel today challenged the Bharatiya Janata Party to fight the forthcoming elections democratically instead of using central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax to intimidate the political opponents and disrupt the functioning of his government.

The Chief Minister drew the attention of the judiciary to take note of this intimidation and stop it since the state government did not have any other resource or recourse to counter the harassment and intimidation by the central agencies.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters in the aftermath of the ED raids on the houses of his close aides in Chhattisgarh yesterday, when it was his birthday, Mr Bhagel pointed out, the ED had claimed a scam to the tune of Rs 2168 crores, but had so far not been able to account for more than Rs 200 crores.  He added, similarly the ED claimed that the coal scam amount was to the tune of Rs 500 crores, but had not been able to provide figures for more than Rs 150 crores.

Referring to the liquor policy, he said, it had been made by the previous BJP government. He said, the revenue had been increased from Rs 3900 crores to Rs 6500 crores and despite that the ED alleges that there has been a loss to state exchequer. He asserted that the ED has not been able to justify its allegations of loss even after presenting four supplementary challans. He said, even the CAG had also not raised any questions about it in its successive reports after thorough audit.

Bhagel said, if some scam has taken place, then why the ED has not taken any action against the distillers. He pointed out, in case of any scam the main accused should be the distiller who has not been touched. “But, the only purpose of the ED is to intimidate the people in government to malign and defame it ahead of the elections”, he observed, while adding, such tactics will not benefit the BJP in any way as these will further alienate and antagonise people of Chhattisgarh. He said, while last time the BJP had been reduced to 15 seats, the number will come down further particularly after such raids.

He disclosed that the ED was now trying to claim another scam in paddy procurement. He alleged that the BJP was perturbed as to how the entire produce of 107 metric tonnes of paddy was milled on time. He said, otherwise, the farmers’ crops would get damaged in the open as has been reported from Madhya Pradesh and was reported in the past from Chhattisgarh also.

The popular Congress Chief Minister, in a pithy remark said, the BJP is nowhere seen in the state and it is only the ED and the IT which is on the ground fighting for the BJP. “But we are not scared of dying, we are not scared of fighting and we are not scared of going to jail”, he asserted, while pointing out the people of Chhattisgarh are great fighters who have taken on Maoists head on.

“IF the BJP is confident about Modi Ji’s appeal, why is it not fighting elections in his name but is using the ED and the IT”, he asked.

He alleged that the ED had let loose a reign of terror on the Congress workers. He said, people were being kept hostage in their houses for days together by the ED officials who do not even bother about the elderly. He said, people are being forced under duress to make signatures otherwise threatened with jail without bail. He accused the ED Director Sanjay Misra of following the diktats of his masters to finish his job till September 15, when his term comes to an end.

Bhagel said, if the ED was really serious about checking money laundering and punishing the guilty, it should pursue the cases of the Mahadev App scam and the chit fund scam. But their purpose is just political to intimidate the opponents of the BJP and do its bidding, he remarked.

New Delhi :  As Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the Moon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, while witnessing the occasion via video conferencing from Johannesburg, took the occasion to announce that ISRO is soon going to launch the ‘Aditya L-1’ mission for a detailed study of the Sun.

He also touched upon Mission Venus being one of ISRO’s goals.

“India is proving again and again that the sky is not the limit, ” the Prime Minister said as he highlighted Mission Gaganyaan where India is fully prepared for its first human space flight mission.

“We’ll test the limits of our solar system, and work to realise the infinite possibilities of the universe for humans, ” Modi asserted.

Earlier, while expressing his happiness at the success of the Chandrayaan mission, Modi said, “India has reached the South Pole of the Moon where no country in the world could reach to date with the dedication and talent of our scientists.”

“Time is not far when the children would say ‘Chanda Mama Door Ke Nahi Ek Tour Ke’ (the moon is only a tour away), ” an ecstatic Prime Minister said.

“Our moon mission is based on human-centric approach. Therefore, this success belongs to all of humanity. We’ll test the limits of our solar system, and work to realise the infinite possibilities of the universe for humans, ” he said in his video message.

“India is proving again and again that the sky is not the limit, ” Modi added.

The Prime Minister, who is currently in Johannesburg, South Africa, to attend the BRICS summit, said that “India is now on the moon!”

He stated that the country had just witnessed the first flight of the New India.

We rejected violence in 90s: Omar Abdullah

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Wednesday that despite the hurdles created by the ruling party (BJP), his party National Conference was growing stronger by the day.

“We are facing challenges at every point, even where we are not expecting them,”  Omar said, according to a press release issued by the party. “The ruling party is working extra time to create hurdles for us. The active support of people and our workers has kept us going.”

He emphasized that the unwavering support of the people and the party’s loyal members has been instrumental in sustaining their momentum. He asserted that the NC remains undeterred and committed to its objectives.

“We were the ones who rejected the violence in the 1990s, we did not change our stand, Omar said while speaking at a party function in Srinagar.” “Those who ridiculed us then are seen holding national flags today in the rallies led by LG.”

Omar, who is also NC’s Vice President, accused the ruling party of persistently attempting to erase his party’s plough symbol. He claimed that the government is leveraging its power and influence to achieve this goal. However, he underlined that such strategies have been ineffective in the past.

“They fail to remember that NC has outlived such manoeuvrings in the past with the support of our people,” he said. “The reason they time and again fail to cast us off is because of our undeterred stand on issues and policies.”

Don’t believe in false promises of Congress, BJP: KCR tells people

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday cautioned people against believing false and misleading promises of Congress and BJP.

Addressing a public meeting at Medak, he urged people to be alert and exercise their vote carefully in the coming Assembly elections.

He advised them to analyse what was the situation in Telangana 10 years ago and what it is today. This was the first public meeting addressed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief after announcing candidates for 115 out of 119 seats for coming Assembly elections.

KCR appealed to people to continue their support to the BRS so that the state can march ahead on the path of development and prosperity.

He ridiculed the appeal of Congress to people to give the party a change and reminded people that they have given the chance to Congress for 50 years.

The BRS chief while BJP is saying that electricity meters should be fixed to agriculture pumpsets, the Congress party is saying that three hour electricity is sufficient for farmers.

KCR claimed that Telangana lost Rs 25, 000 crore because his government refused to accept the condition laid down by the BJP government at the Centre that meters should be fixed to agriculture pumpsets.

“I told them clearly that I will not accept this even at the cost of my life, ” he said.

Lashing out at the Congress party, he said the party made many promises during recent elections in Karnataka but failed to fulfill them after coming to power.

KCR said that farmers in Karnataka are getting only 7 hours of power supply.

He claimed that Telangana is the only state in the country supplying free power to farmers for 24 hours.

The government is not asking farmers how much water they are drawing or what is the HP of the motors being used by them.

He said 1.03 crore households in Telangana have got drinking water connections under Mission Bhagiratha and asked why Congress never thought of supplying drinking water.

Pointing out that agriculture was in distress before formation of Telangana state, he claimed that Kaleshwaram and other projects enhanced irrigation facilities and the state has now overtaken Punjab in paddy production.

“There are no farmer suicides in Telangana today. The villages are prospering. People are building houses. I am told that villages have as many as 30-40 and even 60-70 cars each, ” he said.

KCR asked the people if they would allow all the progress made in the last nine years to be destroyed by giving power to parties which are inefficient and which failed to deliver on their promises in the past.

He claimed that Telangana has become a model state with several schemes for the welfare of farmers.

Referring to the Rythu Bima scheme, he said Rs 5 lakh is being given to the family of a deceased farmer irrespective of the cause of death.

“This scheme is not there even in the US, UK or any other country and it is not there in any other state in India, ” he said.

He slammed Congress party for its promise to scrap Dharani portal and alleged that it wants to bring back corruption and system of middlemen in land registration.

He reiterated that it is because of Dharani that the money is being immediately credited to the bank accounts of farmers under Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima.

On the promise of Congress to increase social security pension to Rs 4, 000, KCR urged people to think whether a party which was paying only Rs 200 as the pension will pay Rs 4, 000.

He said it was BRS which increased the pension to Rs 2, 000 and assured the people that it will be gradually enhanced with the increase in the state’s revenue.

KCR appealed to the people of Medak to re-elect Padma Devender Reddy with a huge majority.

Earlier, the chief minister inaugurated the new buildings of district collectorate, the office of SP and also the BRS office.

Sonia ‘thrilled’ over Chandrayaan-3 success, says ISRO capabilities built over decades

New Delhi: Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the success of Chandrayaan-3 mission saying ‘its outstanding capabilities have been built up over decades’.

In her congratulatory letter to ISRO chairman S. Somanath, Sonia Gandhi said, “This is to let you know how thrilled I was by ISRO’s magnificent achievement last evening. It is a matter of great pride and excitement to all Indians, particularly the younger generation.”

The former Congress chief said, “ISRO’s outstanding capabilities have been built up over decades. It has had remarkable leaders and a spirit of collective endeavour has always driven it.”

She said that its being “anchored” on self-reliance since the early sixties has contributed to its great successes.

“I wish the entire ISRO fraternity all the very best and extend my warm greetings to each and every member of it on this momentous occasion, ” she added.

Her remarks came after India’s moon lander successfully set its four legs softly and safely on the lunar soil on Wednesday evening as planned, and became the fourth nation in the world to achieve the feat.

The lander landed near the South Pole of the moon after travelling about 3.84 lakh km for over 40 days.

With the landing, a major portion of the Rs 600 crore Chandrayaan-3 mission has been realised.

Chandrayaan-3 Moon Landing Successful, India has created history

New Delhi : India on Wednesday scripted history with the successful soft landing of its lunar mission Chandrayaan- 3 on the South Pole region of the Moon. It was a historic day for the country as the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO)  Chandrayaan-3 conquered the  Moon. The achievement has not only made the entire nation proud  but also opened up a wave of opportunities for several sectors that could boost India’s economic growth, bringing the country closer to its dream of becoming the third-largest economy in the world. With this achievement, India has become the first country to land on the Moon’s challenging South Pole region. The space agency ISRO announced the landing with sparking cheers and applause among the space scientists watching and wrote, “India, I reached my destination and you too!’: Chandrayaan-3.”  PM Narendra Modi congratulated Indians and space scientists for the achievement. ‘India will remember this day forever’ PM Modi said attending occasion virtual. Congratulating the team of scientists at ISRO, PM said, “India’s successful moon mission is not India’s alone…Our approach of one earth, one family one future is resonating across the globe…Moon mission is based on the same human centric approach. So, this success belongs to all of humanity.”

The Lander Module (LM) of the ISRO third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3, launched on July 14, making India only the fourth country after the erstwhile USSR, the U.S. and China to make a soft landing on the lunar surface. Precisely at 6.03 p.m. the lander touched the lunar surface and there were euphoric celebrations at the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISRO Telemetry, Tracking, and Command Network (ISTRAC), Bengaluru. In a few hours from now the Lander will deploy the Rover which will carry out in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface during the course of its mobility. The Lander and the Rover with a mission life of one Lunar day (14 Earth days) have scientific payloads to carry out experiments on the lunar surface. Given the history of India’s second lunar mission, which failed during the last 20 minutes before landing, ISRO was extra-cautious this time in the process. The real test of the mission began at the last leg of the landing. Prior to 20 minutes before landing, ISRO initiated Automatic Landing Sequence (ALS). It enabled Vikram LM to take charge and use its on-board computers and logic to identify a favourable spot and make a soft-landing on the lunar surface. India’s current space market is worth around $8 billion and has been growing at about 4% annually in the last few years, compared to 2% globally.

India’s space economy is likely to touch $40 billion by 2040 and a successful Chandrayaan-3 mission may help India achieve the target much sooner as more countries are expected to approach India for launching their satellites, said analysts and  expect India’s space sector to capitalise on a reputation for cost-competitive engineering. The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) had a budget of around just $74 million for the mission.

Congress calls Himachal Floods as National Calamity demands Rs10K Crores as relief package

New Delhi: The Congress party on August 23 demanded that the devastation caused by floods and heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh be declared as a ‘National Calamity’. The party also demanded a special relief package of Rs 10,000 Cr for the state, saying the damage and devastation was unimaginable.

Addressing a press conference here today, Congress MP and AICC In-charge for Himachal Pradesh Rajeev Shukla urged the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Chairman Rajya Sabha to allow the MPs to donate for the calamity relief from the MPLAD funds as was done during earlier calamities.

The Congress leader said that the enormity of the devastating tragedy in Himachal Pradesh was not being realized and felt across the country. He said, such devastation had taken place for the first time in Himachal’s history where roads and highways have been washed away.

He said, the government of India had so far provided just Rs 200 Crores to the state which was just peanuts. He said, the total damage estimated was to the tune of Rs 13,000 crores.

Shukla demanded relief on the pattern of Uttarakhand, Bhuj earthquake and the tsunami given to other states earlier.

The Congress MP said, the Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had already met the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Finance Minister seeking relief for the state. He alleged that the BJP in HP was trying to politicize the tragedy. He appealed to people across the country to come forward and help the affected people as it was devastating humanitarian tragedy. Besides, he pointed out, Himachal Pradesh did not have enough resources of its own and it needed external support.

To a question about BJP’s claim that during its tenure much more satellites were launched as compared to the Congress regime, Shukla remarked sarcastically, “for them nothing happened in India before 2014”.
