Delhi CM Atishi calls on PM Modi

New Delhi:  Delhi Chief Minister Atishi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Monday. This is the first meeting after she became chief minister of Delhi.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) put out just one line on X, saying, “Chief Minister of Delhi, Atishi, called on PM Narendra Modi.”

Atishi later posted on X, saying, “Called on Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji today. I look forward to full cooperation between the Centre and the Delhi government for the welfare and progress of our capital.”

Atishi took over as the chief minister from Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal on September 17. However, she took charge on September 25 drawing parallels between her leadership transition and the epic Ramayana, likening her situation to Bharat’s refusal to sit on Lord Ram’s throne, highlighting her personal connection and loyalty to Kejriwal. She pointed to the media the empty chair and said that this will remain vacant till Kejriwal returns to power.

Atishi is the third woman to become Chief Minister of Delhi and also the youngest to hold the top post. Her succession to the CM post followed Kejriwal’s resignation as the Chief Minister after his bail in the liquor policy scam by the Supreme Court.

Atishi, who represents Delhi’s Kalkaji constituency, is not only the third woman to serve as Delhi’s Chief Minister but also the youngest to hold the position.

Her tenure began amid tensions between the AAP-led Delhi government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre. One of the recent flashpoints has been the controversy over the allotment of the Chief Minister’s residence, Sheesh Mahal, and projections from the Finance Ministry suggesting Delhi is facing a revenue deficit for the first time in its history.

These issues continue to fuel political rivalry between the two parties as Atishi steps into her role at a critical juncture for Delhi’s governance and finances.

Delhi will go to the polls early next year unless the Election Commission prepones it with the elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand as demanded by the Aam Aadmi Party.

President’s rule revoked, new government to take shape in J&K

President Droupadi Murmu signed a notification on Sunday night, officially revoking President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir, paving the way for the formation of a new government in the Union Territory (UT).

The President’s rule had been in place since October 31, 2019, following the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, which stripped J&K of its special status and reorganized it into a UT.

The notification stated that the order issued on October 31, 2019, is revoked under the powers of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, and the Constitution, just ahead of the appointment of the new Chief Minister.

National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah, who is set to take the oath as Chief Minister, has staked a claim to form the government. The NC secured 42 seats in the 90-member Assembly, with support from alliance partners Congress (6 seats) and CPM (1 seat). PM Modi pays tribute to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary

New Delhi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tributes to Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary. PM Modi said that his ideals will remain a source of inspiration for every generation.

“My heartful tribute to Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary. He dedicated his life for positive change in the country and society. His personality and ideals will remain a source of inspiration for every generation, ” PM Modi said in a post on X.

Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan is regarded as a hero of the anti-emergency movement in 1975. Fondly called ‘JP’, he pioneered “total revolution”, a slogan he coined to mobilise the people against the then Indira Gandhi government, which imposed the Emergency in 1975.

The veteran leader became the face of the mass movement against the Indira government. In 1977 the Janata Party was voted into power and became the first non-Congress party to form a government at the Centre under his guidance.

Several top politicians from Bihar are products of the JP movement, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, former CM and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Deputy CM Sushil Modi of the BJP and others.

The ‘Loknayak’ was one of the prominent faces of the Quit India Movement and was known for his selfless service towards the nation and its people.JP never contested an election but received tremendous support from the people, especially, when he led the fight against the Emergency.

He was one of the founding members of the Congress Socialist Party (CSP). After Independence, he constituted the Socialist Party, which was merged with J.B. Kripalani’s Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party to form the Praja Socialist Party. While Nehru was keen on JP joining the Union government, he sought to distance himself from electoral politics, opting to focus on social causes instead. He strived his whole life to strengthen democracy in the country.

New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Friday claimed to have busted a syndicate with the arrest of three men, including two foreign nationals, and the seizure of cocaine worth Rs 3.3 crore from their possession.

The two Nigerian nationals, along with a taxi driver, were arrested on September 27.

After revenue deficit projections for Delhi, Atishi throws this challenge to BJP

New Delhi:  After the Finance Ministry flagged Delhi’s revenue deficit projections for the year 2024-25, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Thursday responded by challenging the BJP to show even one state where they govern with a profit.

“BJP governs 22 states. I challenge them to name one where they are in profit. I will present Delhi’s accounts, and let the BJP do the same for any state they control, ” Atishi said during a press conference here on Thursday.

She expressed confidence in Delhi’s financial management and promised to present the government’s accounts for public scrutiny.

In a key decision at a cabinet meeting, Atishi announced an increase in the MLA fund from Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore annually.

She said, “The Delhi government made a significant move by increasing the MLA fund from Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore per year. No other state in the country has allocated such a large amount as the MLA fund.”

At the same time, Atishi accused the BJP and Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena of political manoeuvring, after her belongings were allegedly removed from the Chief Minister’s residence at 6 Flagstaff Road.

She claimed the BJP, unable to win in Delhi, is now attempting to seize control of the Chief Minister’s official residence.

“BJP could not defeat the Aam Aadmi Party in the elections. They could not form a government. So, they run Operation Lotus. They put our ministers and leaders in jail as a conspiracy but still, they fail to break our party and government. Now when all their tricks have failed, they want to occupy the Chief Minister’s residence. Aam Aadmi Party leaders have not come into politics for big bungalows and cars. If needed, we will work for the people even sitting on the road, ” she said.

She said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is focused on serving the people of Delhi, even if it means working from the streets.

Atishi also accused LG Saxena of engaging in “cheap politics, ” alleging that he stalled Delhi government projects, empowered criminals, and illegally ordered the felling of 1100 trees.
