Indian Army To Reduce 50 Percent Of Supplies From State-Run Ordnance Factories

The Indian Army has decided to reduce its supplies from state-owned ordnance factories from 94 to 50 percent as centre has not granted additional funds in budget 2018-19. The decision is taken to ensure that the money spent on ordnance should be reduced and instead it should be used to procure the adequate stock of critical ammunition and spares for a short intense war.

The move will largely impact the supplies such as clothing (combat dress, berets, belts, shoes) to soldiers.

Army officials while explaining the motive behind the reduction of supplies said, “The Army has no other option but to reduce the supplies from ordnance factories. Of the three projects, only one has begun. The official explained that payment for the emergency procurement for this project has been distributed over the years due to shortage of funds.”

“For remaining payment of the two projects, the Army is contemplating on how it will fund it as the Centre has asked it to spend from its own budget,” the army official said.

Bengaluru Ola Cab Driver Molests 26-Year Old Woman Passenger

In yet another woman molestation case, a 26-year old woman passenger was stripped and molested by the Ola cab driver on June 1. The woman booked the cab for Bengaluru airport around 2 am to catch an early morning flight. Arun, the driver of the cab, took her to an isolated place near Kothanur and molested her.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the woman, a native of Bengaluru who worked as an architect here, had booked the cab on June 1 night and left for the airport. However, the driver diverted the car to a secluded place.

“I knew that no one will come for her help as it was an isolated place and she was panicking as all the doors were locked. There is no chance to raise an alarm as I already snatched her mobile phone before molesting her,” Arun said in a police statement.

The victim has filed a complaint by sending an email to the city police commissioner after reaching Mumbai

The complaint reads: I had booked a cab from Kodihalli near Indiranagar to reach Airport. Around 2.30 am, the driver took the Kothanur road to reach the airport. But he suddenly stopped the car on the way as I was alone and centrally locked the doors before reaching an isolated place. He started sexually harassing and threatening me not to scream. He also held my neck saying that he would call his friends to rape me if she tried to escape or raise an alarm.

He then allegedly snatched my mobile phone and then stripped me, clicked photos of mine with my mobile phone and later shared the photos via WhatsApp to him. He blackmailed me on the context of uploading the photos online if I revealed the incident to anyone.

The cab company while expressing deep regret over the incident said:

“We regret the unfortunate experience the customer had during the ride. We have zero tolerance for such incidents and the driver has been blacklisted from the platform as an immediate action upon receiving the complaint.”

“Safety of our customers is our top priority and we are extending our full support to the police authorities in their investigation,” the spokesperson said.

The Delhi Police has charged Tharoor with abetting the suicide of his wife Sunanda Pushkar, who was found dead in a Delhi hotel in January 2014.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal took cognisance of the offences of alleged abetment of suicide and committing cruelty by Tharoor towards Pushkar.

Reacting to the summons issued, Shashi Tharoor released an official statement on Tuesday evening, it stated:
I have taken notice of the developments in the case being heard by the Hon’ble Judge of the Patiala House Court in relation to the circumstances surrounding the untimely demise of my late wife, Mrs. Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor. As I understand, the court has issued summons against my name and I have been asked to appear before the court on Saturday, 7th July 2018.
I would like to point out that, from the very start, I have fully cooperated with the investigating team and continue to maintain that due legal process must be followed in all aspects related to this case.
I would like to reiterate my position that I find the charges preposterous and baseless, the product of a malicious and vindictive campaign against myself. I will continue to vigorously contest these charges and maintain my steadfast conviction that ultimately the truth will prevail through the judicial system that we are privileged to have in our country.
In the meantime, I would like to request the media to respect my right to privacy as well as that of my family. Given that the matter is sub-judice, I will refrain from commenting on this issue further until such time as the next scheduled hearing of the case.
