Jharkhand: Six members of a family committed suicide

Six members of a family had committed suicide in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district on Saturday. A suicide note has been recovered from the scene, which mentions that the family was under a lot of stress due to debts and financial crises.

According to Police, the victims were Naresh Maheswari, 40, his father Mahavir Maheshwari, 70, mother Kiran Maheshwari, 65, his wife Priti Agarwal, 38 and two of their children Aman, 8 and Anjali, 6. The Victim Naresh Maheswari killed himself by jumping off the roof of his apartment while his parents and wife hung themselves from ceiling fans and their children’s throat were slit.

The reason behind their suicide was a lot of pressure of debts and huge loss in the business, stated in their suicide note, which was found by the police.

However police said, “We are still investigating the case and Forensic team is collecting samples to ascertain the cause of death.”

This incident has come after 11 members of a family were found dead in North Delhi’s Burari on June 30.

Two BSF jawans martyred in naxal attack in Chhattisgarh

Two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were martyred and another injured during an encounter with naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Sunday.

The encounter took place in a forest area near Mahla camp of BSF, when a team of BSF’s 114th battalion was returning after carrying out an anti-Maoist operation, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Anti-Naxal Operations) Sundarraj P said.

Naxals started heavy firing on the BSF patrolling team which was returning through forest of Barkot village leading to the gun-battle between the two sides, the DIG said.

Two constables identified as Mukhtiyar Singh of Punjab and Lokendra Singh of Rajasthan were killed while another constable, Sandip Dey, sustained injuries in the gunfight, he said.

Bodies of the deceased were brought to the headquarters of BSF 114 battalion in Pakhanjore, he said. While the injured jawan was airlifted to Raipur for further treatment, the DIG said.

HD Kumaraswamy breaks down at an event in Bengaluru, says not happy with the coalition

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday broke down at an event in Bengaluru, organised by his party JD(S) to felicitate him for becoming the CM.

Refusing to accept the felicitation by party workers and indicating his unhappiness between the coalition of Congress and JD(S), he said “You are standing with bouquets to wish me, as one of your brother became CM & you all are happy, but I’m not. I know the pain of coalition govt. I became Vishkanth & swallowed pain of this govt.”

Upset with the criticism he faced within two months of forming the government and limitations in implementing the promises, an emotional Kumaraswamy said, “he would not keep the post of the CM at the cost of his self-esteem. If I decide to do so, I can step down within two hours”. “I don’t waste time and energy to save my chair. I have inherited the legacy of my father H.D. Deve Gowda, who quit the post of Prime Minister,” he added.

“I have not become Chief Minister today happily. I have pain. I had placed several issues in front of people during election feeling that they will trust me, but people of the state have not shown trust in me,” he added.

The JD(S) and the Congress joined hands in the state after the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 104 seats in the Karnataka Assembly Elections. To keep the BJP out of power, Congress pledged unconditional support to the JD(S) to form the government. Kumaraswamy took oath as Chief Minister on May 23, 2018.

First Batch of Haj Pilgrims leaves from India

Union Minister of Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Saturday flagged of the first batch of the Haj pilgrims. The first batch of 410 Haj pilgrims had left for Madina and Over 1,200 Haj pilgrims for Saudi Arabia in three flights from Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi.

Besides Delhi, 269 from Guwahati, 450 pilgrims from Gaya, 900 from Lucknow and 1,020 pilgrims from Srinagar left for Saudi Arabia for Haj.

According to the Minority Affairs Minister, “Haj 2018 has been organised according to the new Haj Policy for ensuring better facilities to the pilgrims and a smooth journey to Haj.”

“Despite the removal of Haj subsidy and various taxes imposed in Saudi Arabia, pilgrims will not face any additional financial burden,” Naqvi added.

For the first time after Independence, a record 1,75,025 Muslims from India are going for Haj, while Government will facilitate a total of 1,28,702 pilgrims across India through the Haj Committee this year.

On July 17 pilgrims from Kolkata, on July 20 pilgrims from Varanasi, on July 21 pilgrims from Mangalore, on July 26 pilgrims from Goa and on July 29 pilgrims from Aurangabad, Chennai, Mumbai and Nagpur, will embark for Haj.

On July 30, pilgrims from Ranchi, on August 1 pilgrims from Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Cochin, Hyderabad and Jaipur, and on August 3, pilgrims from Bhopal, will embark for Haj.

Belgium beat England 2-0 to finish third in FIFA world cup 2018

Belgium took the third spot in the FIFA World Cup 2018 on Saturday after beating England 2-0 at Saint Petersburg in Russia

Thomas Meunier did an early goal in the 4th minute and provided Belgium with a much needed lead, while Eden Hazard doubled the lead for Belgium in the 82nd Minute as Belgium beat England by 2-0 to claim the third spot in FIFA world cup 2018.

Eden Hazard has been given the official man of the match award.

Final of the FIFA world cup 2018 will be played on Sunday between France and Croatia at Moscow’s Luzhniki stadium.

President Kovind nominates four to Rajya Sabha

RSS ideologue Rakesh Sinha, classical dancer Sonal Mansingh, Former MP Ram Shakal,  and stone artist Raghunath Mohapatra were nominated to the Rajya Sabha on Saturday.

According to the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office),  the nominations were made by President Ram Nath Kovind on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi

RSS ideologue Sinha is the honorary director and founder of the Delhi-based think-tank India Policy Foundation.

A member of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and a professor at Motilal Nehru College of Delhi University.

Sonal Mansingh is among India’s leading proponents of Indian classical dance.

She has been performing Bharatnatyam and Odissi from decades. She is also a well-known choreographer, teacher, orator and social activist.

In the year 1977, Mansingh had found the Centre for Indian Classical Dances in Delhi.

Ram Shakal who is from Uttar Pradesh, a renowned people’s leader and a public representative, he has spent his entire life for the welfare and well-being of the Dalit community, also three-time member of the Lok Sabha, representing the Robertsganj constituency of Uttar Pradesh.

Raghunath Mohapatra is an internationally famous expert on stone carving and has been practicing since 1959. His contribution towards the maintenance of traditional sculpture and ancient monuments is outstanding and around 2000 students were trained by him.

His well-known works include a 6-feet-high statue of the Sun God carved in grey sandstone, in the Central Hall of Parliament; and the Wooden Buddha, Buddha Temple, Paris.

According to the Article 80(1)(a) of the Constitution provides that the president can nominate 12 persons to the Rajya Sabha, having special knowledge, or practical experience in respect of art, literature, science, and social service.

Jagannath Rath Yatra begins at Puri, PM Modi extends his greetings

The nine day annual Jagannath Rath Yatra has commenced on Saturday in Puri, Odisha amid tight security and fanfare .

 

Lakhs of devotees from India as well as from around the globe have thronged the city of Puri to celebrate the festival, which is into its 141st year.

 

According to senior officials, elaborate security arrangements have been made for the festival to go on smoothly, 120 CCTV cameras have been installed at different  locations , police officer’s are positioned on the routes where devotees have lined up to pull the chariot.

 

Prime Minster Narendra Modi extended his greetings on this occasion, “Greetings on the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra. With the blessings of Lord Jagannath, may our country scale new heights of growth. May every Indian be happy and prosperous. Jai Jagannath!” PM tweeted.

Death toll mounts to 130 in Pakistan bombings

At least 130 people were killed and more than 300 injured in two separate bombings, targeting political rallies in Pakistan on Friday. This incident has created security fears ahead of the general elections on July 25.

A suicide bomber exploded in the middle of a gathering of the Balochistan Awami Party in Mastung town, killing at least 128 people, including party leader Siraj Raisani, and injuring more than 250 people.

According to the Officials, 20kg of explosives and ball bearings were used in the attack.

After few hours another attack came into light when 20 people got killed and several injured due to the hidden bomb in a motorcycle went off near a rally which was organised by Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) candidate Akram Khan Durrani at Bannu in northwestern Khyber-Paktunkhwala province.

However Durrani survived the attack and said he would continue his campaign despite threats.

ISIS and the Pakistani Taliban claimed the responsibility for the attack.

President Mamnoon Hussain and prime minister Nasirul Mulk also condemned the attack in separate statements.

India to go ahead with S-400 Triumf missile deal with Russia: Nirmala Sitharaman

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday asserted that India will go ahead with the deal of S-400 Triumf air defence missile with Russia despite pressure from the US. She said it is an American law under which the Trump administration has imposed sanctions on military deals with Russia, REFERRING to CAATSA (Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act) and India has already conveyed its position on the issue to the US.

Defence Minister said that the negotiations with Russia for the S-400 missile deal have almost come to conclusion. After the deal gets signed, it will take two-and-a-half to four years for implementing S-400 Triumf air defence missile.

There has been mounting concerns in India over the US sanctions against Russian defence majors including Rosoboron export as billions of dollars of military purchases may be impacted because of the punitive measure.

The US had announced sanctions against Russia under the strict law after its interference in the American presidential election in 2016.

The US government under CAATSA are entitled to punish the entities which are engage in significant transaction with the defence or intelligence establishment of Russia.

India wants to acquire the long-range missile for tightening its air defence mechanism.

In 2016, India and Russia had signed an agreement on the ‘Triumf’ interceptor-based missile system which can destroy incoming hostile aircraft, missiles and even drones at ranges of up to 400 km. S-400 is known as Russia’s most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile defence system.

The S-400 is an upgraded version of the S-300 systems. The missile system, manufactured by Almaz-Antey, has been in service in Russia since 2007.

India invites President Trump to be Chief Guest at 2019 Republic day parade

India has invited US President Donald Trump to be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations in 2019, government sources said.

India has sent a pre-invite to the White House to know if it is convenient for President Donald Trump to be chief guest at the Republic Day celebration. A pre-invite is followed by a formal invitation if the dignitary says yes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited President Trump for a bilateral visit to India during his visit to Washington in June 2017

A joint statement issued after the talks had said, “President Trump gladly accepted Prime Minister Modi’s invitation to visit India.” 

The Trump administration has been pushing for deeper strategic cooperation with India, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region where China was expanding its influence.      

If Trump accepts, he would be the second US president after Barack Obama to be the chief guest at Republic Day celebrations. Obama was the chief guest on Republic Day in 2015.
