US military cancels $300 million in aid to Pakistan

The US military has taken a decision to cancel $300 million in aid to Pakistan due to latter’s lack of “decisive actions” in support of regional American strategy.

“Due to a lack of Pakistani decisive actions in support of the South Asia Strategy, the remaining USD 300 million aid to Pakistan was reprogrammed by (the Defence Department) in the June/July 2018 time frame for other urgent priorities,” Pentagon Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Kon Faulkner said.

Faulkner said that the Pentagon aimed to spend the $300 million on “other urgent priorities” if approved by Congress.

He further added that another $500 million in CSF was stripped by Congress from Pakistan earlier this year, to bring the total withheld to $800 million.

US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis has refused to give the necessary certification to the Congress that Pakistan has taken strong steps against terrorist groups like the Haqqani network and Lashkar-e-Taiba. “This is not a new decision or a new announcement,” said by Faulkner in response to a question.

Faulkner said that they will continue to press Pakistan to indiscriminately target all terrorist groups, including the Haqqani Network and LET in the region.

Pentagon will have a congressional response by the end of September, to allow it to implement the reprogramming actions, he said.

Union Minister Ashwini Choubey calls Rahul Gandhi ‘Sewer Worm’, sparks controversy

Union minister and senior BJP leader, Ashwini Kumar Choubey in a controversial remark on Friday, called Congress president Rahul Gandhi a “schizophrenic” and a “sewer worm”. Ashwini, who is a member of parliament from Bihar’s Buxar, made the remarks while comparing Rahul Gandhi with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Ashwini, while addressing a programme in Bihar’s Sasaram, said “Narendra Modi is like the sky and Rahul Gandhi is like naali ka keeda.”

Attacking Rahul Gandhi for peddling lies, Choubey said, “Rahul Gandhi is calling himself great, intelligent, perfect. He said Modi is a liar on Rafale deal… This can be said by that person who is suffering from Schizophrenia disease. I think he should be admitted to mental hospital,” the union minister said.

Choubey tagged Congress party as the “mother of corruption” and hit out at the opposition by calling mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), maha-thag-bandhan(alliance of the corrupt).

He said India needs a progressive prime minister and the whole country will unite to make Narendra Modi the prime minister again.

This is not Choubey’s first controversial remarks against Rahul Gandhi. In 2015, he had referred to Rahul Gandhi as a parrot who had been speaking against the BJP on the basis of a script written by others after remaining silent during 10 years of UPA rule. He had also called Rahul Gandhi’s mother and then Congress chief Sonia Gandhi as the demonic mythical character “Putna” from Mahabharata.

Persons with disabilities to be enrolled and their contribution in elections will be ensured.”

Election Commission intends to set-up similar disabled-friendly polling stations in other three states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mizoram.

CEC Rawat added, “All polling premises will have sturdy ramps (which wheelchair-bound voters can use). A database of disabled voters is being created and such electors would be enrolled and their list shall be provided to booth-level officers so that they can be given special assistance. “

Rupee devaluation responsible for fuel prices hike: union petroleum minister

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan on September 1 said that devaluation of the Indian rupee against the US Dollar and rise in crude oil price in the international market, are the two major factors responsible for the hike in fuel prices in the country.

Union minister reportedly said that the Centre is concerned about the rising prices of petrol and diesel across the country.

He added, “Such situation has arisen due to the rise in crude oil price in the international market and devaluation of the Indian rupee against US Dollar. The Indian government is concerned about it.”

Following the fuel hike, the price of petrol has come to Rs 78.68 per litre in Delhi, against Rs. 78.52 on August 31, while the price of diesel is being retailed at Rs. 70.42 per litre.
