CM Nitish Kumar flags off bus service between Bihar and Nepal

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday flagged off the first bus service between Bihar and Nepal.

Kumar said, Bihar and Nepal are now connected and this will strengthen the relations between the two.

Chief Minister said the service will link Bodhgaya in Bihar to Kathmandu in Nepal. Similarly, Patna in Bihar to Janakpur in Nepal.

The bus service was commissioned after an agreement between India and Nepal.

The buses from Kathmandu to Bodh Gaya will start plying in the second week of September, said Sanjay Agrawal, Secretary in the Transport Department.

As per the reports, the bus service between Bihar and Nepal was due to start in May but was delayed due to lack of official approval from both sides.

India-US to begin Joint military drill ‘Yudh Abhyas 2018’ from Sep 16 in Uttarakhand

As part of India-US defence cooperation, Indian and US will hold a joint military training Yudh Abhyas 2018 from September 16 to 29 in the foothills of Chaubattia in Uttarakhand.

This will be the 14th edition of the joint military exercise hosted alternately by both the countries.

The Yudh Abhyas 2018 will simulate a scenario where both India and US will work together in counter insurgency and counter terrorism environment in mountainous terrain under UN charter.

Ministry of Defence in a press release said, “Both armies have vast experience in active counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations and sharing each other’s tactics and drills in such diverse environment is of immense value. The exercise is a great step for the armies of the two democratic countries to train together and gain together from each other’s rich operational experiences. The latest exercise will help further build interoperability between the forces of both the nations.”

Nearly 350 personnel of the US Army and similar strength of the Indian Army will participate in the two week long exercise.

The curriculum of the military exercise is progressively designed and planned to help participants to get familiar with each other’s organizational structure, weapons, equipment, confidence training and tactical drills.

The military training will culminate with a final validation exercise in which troops will jointly carry out an operation against terrorists in a fictitious but realistic setting.

Maratha quota issue: Bombay HC orders state government to submit final report by Nov 15

The Bombay High Court (HC) on September 11 has set November 15 as the last date for the Maharashtra government to submit its complete report on the agitations that broke out in the state over the Maratha reservation issue and also asked Backward Class Commission to provide the court with progress reports after every four weeks until the deadline.

The state government today submitted its progress report to the court, which was finalized on the basis of data collected by the Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission and five other agencies. The data was analyzed over 45,000 families belonging to the Maratha community

On August 10, the Pune police arrested a total of 194 persons who were part of arson and rioting during the Maratha quota agitation. As many as 192 accused were produced in the court on the same day, 170 of whom were granted bail on August 14.

Massive protest and violence erupted in the city during a state-wide bandh that was called by the Maratha Kranti Morcha, demanding reservation in government jobs and education.

Nearly eight people have committed suicide in the past two months, linking their decision to the Maratha quota demand.

The HC was hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by the Maratha Kranti Morcha, one of the organizations spearheading the agitation over the demand for reservation to the community in jobs and education.

Telangana Bus accident: 45 dead, others injured, rescue operation underway

On September 11 morning, at least 45 people, including seven children, were killed and several others got injured after a Road Transport Corporation (state-run) bus overturned and fell into a valley in Telangana’s Jagitial District.

SP Jagtial Sindhu Sharma said, “45 people have died so far. Injured have been admitted to nearby government hospitals. Rescue operation is underway.”

The accident took place when the RTC bus with 60 passengers onboard, many of whom were pilgrims, was returning to Jagitial town from the famous Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy temple.

“The bus is a local one from Jagitial depot…totally overloaded. The bus was coming from Shanivarampet to Jagitial. After reaching Kondagattu, which is a ghat road, the bus lost control and fell down, killing 23 persons on the spot. The bus had more than 50 passengers. The incident took place at 11.30 am. We were all at Collectorate and rushed immediately and rescued many by 12.15 pm,” said G Narendhar, Jagitial Revenue Divisional Officer.

G Narendhar added that, “The survivors say that they were petrified and yelling in panic after the bus was about to fall. We suspect that the bus’ brakes failed.”

State Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao expressed condolences on the loss of lives and injuries to others. CM directed the officials concerned to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured. He has announced Rs. 5 lakh as compensation to the family members of each deceased.

Ministry of Health implements HIV/AIDS Act 2017

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced that the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Act, 2017 has been implemented, starting September 10, 2018.

The Act, which passed on April 20, 2017, prohibits discrimination against people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (PLHIV) in terms of treatment, employment and workplace.

Moreover, the act says that HIV testing as a prerequisite for obtaining employment or accessing healthcare or education is also prohibited. It says that “no HIV positive person shall be pressurized to disclose his/her status except with his informed consent, and if required by a court order”.

The Act safeguards the property rights of HIV positive people. The provision will be applicable in the matters relating to admission to educational establishments, managing property, operating bank accounts, care and treatment.

PM stresses on need to reduce Anemia cases by 3 times every year

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11 while interacting with Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), ANM and Anganwadi workers via NaMo app called for anemia-free India and stressed on the need to accelerate the pace of reduction in anemia cases by three times every year, instead of current 1 per cent.

PM further said “Anemia is a very big problem. A lot of people in the country are victims of anemia. This disease is caused by lack of elements like iodine and iron. Although the use of iodised salt has increased in the last few years, the cases of anemia are decreasing by just 1 per cent every year. The government has decided that this pace should be tripled under the National Nutrition Mission.”

PM while motivating the ASHA, ANM and Anganwadi workers via NaMo app said, “All of you are going to complete this resolution of anemia-free India with all your might. Making India free of anemia means giving life to lakhs of pregnant women and children.”

The Prime Minister said that the central government is already focusing on aspects relating to nutrition and quality healthcare to fight the menace of anemia in the country. PM added that “Vaccination efforts are on at a quick pace. This helps women and children in particular.”

One of the other steps taken by government in this regard is, “Initially, an ASHA worker used to visit a baby six times in 42 days after his/her birth, now we have increased that time to 15 months. ASHA worker will visit the baby for 11 times in these 15 months,” PM added.

Kashmiri people hold anti-Pak protest in PoK against exploitation of natural resources

Massive anti-Pak protests erupted in different places across Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) demanding an end to the exploitation of natural resources by Islamabad.

Kashmiri people in Muzaffarabad hit the streets asking Pakistan to stop diverting the waters of the Neelum River to Punjab Province.

Protestors shouted slogans against Water and Power Development Authority.

Protest took place in wake of Pakistan depriving the people of Muzaffarabad by driving the freshwater of Neelum River through an elaborate scheme to Punjab Province leading to drying up the river in the middle of the monsoon season.

Protestors in large numbers took to streets all across Muzaffarabad against government’s latest move to take away even the most basic right from the Kashmiri people who live under its occupation.

“Depleting water resources will impact our lives as the river will become dry. The residents will face acute water shortage and everything will be destroyed. We have travelled from Rawalpindi to Muzaffarabad to get this issue resolved. This is very unfortunate,” a protestor said.

Implement NRC in every state: Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday suggested that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) should be implemented across all states of the country.

While addressing a seminar on ‘NRC issue’ Sonowal said, “With the implementation of NRC in all the states, we can protect all Indians”.

He further said, genuine citizens of India would get adequate opportunities to prove their citizenship and their names will be included in the final list of the NRC.

At the same event, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary Ram Madhav said, people excluded from the final list of the Assam-specific National Register of Citizens would be detected, disenfranchised and deported to their countries of origin.

Madhav said, after NRC is being updated, three steps will be taken -“detect, delete and deport” all illegal immigrants from the state. The first step, NRC will ensure the detection of all illegal immigrants. The next step will be delete—deletion of names of illegal immigrants from voters list and deprive them from all government benefits. The next stage will be deportation.

The final draft of NRC Assam which was released in July, included names of 2.89 crore people, out of 3.29 crore applicants in Assam, leaving out names of nearly 40 lakh people.

Telangana assembly election: AIMIM announces first list of candidates

All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Tuesday announced its first list of seven candidates for the coming legislative assembly election in Telangana.

According to the list, Owaisi’s younger brother Akbaruddin Owaisi would contest from Chandrayangutta assembly segment in Hyderabad, Mumtaz Khan will contest from Charminar, while Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri will represent AIMIM from the Yakutpura constituency.

The other candidates announced are: Jaffer Hussain Meraj (Nampally), Mohd Moazam Khan (Bahadurpura), Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala (Malakpet), and Kausar Moinuddin (Karwan).

Legislative assembly elections in Telangana were originally scheduled to be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections next year.

However, Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan on 6 September had dissolved the assembly following a recommendation made by the TRS government, necessitating elections ahead of schedule.

The Governor had asked K Chandrashekhar Rao to continue as caretaker Chief Minister until the new government was formed.

Chhattisgarh has potential to become bio-fuel production hub: Nitin Gadkari

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said on September 10 that Chhattisgarh has immense potential for production of bio-fuel.

While addressing a gathering at Charoda in Durg district of the state, he said use of alternative fuels will cut down our dependence on petrol and diesel.

On Monday, Gadkari laid foundation stone of eight construction works worth Rs 4,251 crore, including four fly-overs between Raipur to Durg.

He further added that Production of wheat, rice, pulses and sugarcane is ample in Chhattisgarh and growth rate of the agriculture sector is also good.

However, the state can also emerge as a bio-fuel (production) hub, Gadkari said.

As the state has enormous potential for production of bio-fuel. This will create job opportunities for farmers, tribals and forest-dwellers and empower them, he said.

Gadkari said, by switching to ethanol, methanol, bio-fuel and CNG, it will cut down dependence on petroleum and reduce the prices of petrol and diesel.
