Delhi: Fire breaks out in a factory in Udyog Nagar

A massive fire broke out on Sunday morning in a 2-storey factory in Delhi’s Udyog Nagar area.

According to the Sources, 30 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

No reports of casualty or loss of life have been reported so far. 

The fire has completely engulfed the top floor of the building.

Earlier in the day, in another incident, a major fire broke out in a multi-storey building in Kolkata’s Bagri Market area, which houses mainly medicine and perfume shops.

As per the reports, the incident took place around 2.45am.

Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire in the building that houses over 400 business establishments.

No immediate reports of casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

India, Serbia join hands to fight terrorism, boost trade

India and Serbia on September 15 signed agreements on cooperation in plant protection and plant quarantine and on-air services, following the talks between Indian Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Both the sides also agreed to expand their bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of economic and cultural relations and join hands to fight terrorism.

India and Serbia are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between them.

Vice President Naidu while briefing the media said, “I had extensive discussion with President Vucic this morning on all important aspects of our bilateral relationship as well as global and regional issues of common interest. We expressed our commitment to further build on long-standing friendly ties between our two countries.”

Vice President Naidu added, India and Serbia agreed to strengthen cooperation in the areas of priority such as agriculture, food processing, defense manufacturing, science and technology, information technology, infrastructure, tourism and pharmaceuticals.

He further added, “India and Serbia are on the path of economic reforms to realize the goal of socio-economic development of our peoples. India as one of the fastest growing major economies in the world, presents opportunities for win-win partnership between Serbian and Indian entrepreneurs in multiple sectors to realize the vast potential of our bilateral relationship.”

“I thanked President Vucic for Serbia’s unilateral decision to waive visa for short visits by Indians travelling to Serbia. India has also extended e-Visa facility to Serbian nationals,” added vice president.

Rewari gang rape case: Defence personnel main accused, SIT formed

One of the three accused in the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old college student in Haryana is an Army soldier posted in Rajasthan and a police team has been sent to Rajasthan to arrest him, Haryana DGP B S Sandhu said on September 15.

The three men allegedly abducted the woman from a bus stop and raped her in Haryana’s Mahendargarh District on September 12 till she fell unconscious, and dumped her at a bus stand.

Haryana Police Chief BS Sandhu said, “Pankaj Fauzi is one of the accused who is working in an army unit in Rajasthan. A police team has gone to Rajasthan to arrest him. I am sure that he will be arrested today.”

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up to investigate the case.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said, “They will be caught soon.”

“If an Army personnel is involved in the crime we will ensure that the person is caught and booked for rape. We do not shelter criminals,” Lieutenant. General Cherish Mathson, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief South Western Command, said.

Victim in her complaint said that when she was on her way to a coaching centre near her village, three young men in a car allegedly abducted her and dragged her to a field, she was then brutally raped and later she was dumped at the bus stop in Kanina. She said she was offered a drink laced with sedatives.

Police officer Naazneed Bhasin while heading the SIT reportedly said, “Medical report confirms rape. We’ve made multiple teams to nab the accused. I appeal to the people to give us any information they have regarding the case and have announced a reward of Rs. 1 lakh for those who help us in cracking the case.”

Jammu and Kashmir: Fire breaks out at Hotel Pamposh in Srinagar

A massive fire broke out on Saturday in Srinagar’s Pamposh hotel. As per the reports, the fire broke out on the top floor of the multi-storeyed hotel.

Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse out the flames. Meanwhile the building was evacuated, and no causalities have been reported so far.

The Pamposh hotel was once known as mini Secretariat of Kashmir is situated in busy city centre ‘Lalchowk’. The building also houses offices of some news channels and business establishments.

The cause of the fire is not known.

PM Narendra Modi launches ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Movement’

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi launched the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Movement’, on Saturday which aims at fulfilling Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a Clean India.

Modi appealed to the citizens to dedicate themselves towards achieving the aim of a clean country starting today.

“From today till Gandhi Jayanti, let us re-dedicate ourselves towards fulfilling Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of Clean India,” he said while interacting with people from different walks of life through video conferencing. ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ that began four years ago has reached an important stage today, where we can proudly say that people from all sections have joined us in the mission,” the Prime Minister said.

Narendra Modi, on Friday had written personalised letters to around 2000 citizens from different walks of life inviting them to join the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Movement’ and strengthen the Swachh Bharat Mission.

In the letter, Those invited by the prime minister include retired government servants, former judges, gallantry award winners, medal winners in the Common Wealth and Asian Games, film personalities, spiritual leaders, journalists of leading media outlets, sportspersons, writers, among others to become part of the mass movement.

To endorse the movement in all the states and union territories of the country, the Prime Minister also wrote letters to Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers of all states, Governors and Lieutenant Governors.

Goa CM Manohar Parrikar heads to New Delhi AIIMS for treatment

Ailing Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer, headed to New Delhi on Saturday, via a special chartered flight for further treatment and examination at the All India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Before leaving for Delhi, Mnaohar Parrikar also held meetings with Speaker Pramod Sawant and Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo amid talks of distribution of some portfolios currently being looked after by him, reports said.

Parrikar, who returned from the US after a medical check-up on September 7, was admitted to a private hospital at North Goa’s Candolim on Thursday evening. He had earlier this year been treated for three months in the US for a pancreatic ailment.

The chief minister spoke to BJP president Amit Shah on Friday evening to update him about his health.

Goa Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo told reporters after meeting Parrikar at a private hospital in the beach village of Candolim that 48 portfolios will be distributed to existing ministers so that the administration of Goa can run smoothly, and ministers can take decisions on any files but Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will keep two or three like Home, Finance, GAD for himself.

Apart from holding key portfolios, Parrikar is holding charge of two other cabinet ministries – Francis D’Souza and Pandurang Madkaikar, both of whom have been hospitalised due to severe ailments.

“Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar would continue as the Chief Minister and if the need arises, the national leaders will discuss with core committee to take a final call,” said by Lobo.

Parrikar’s continued absence from office has been a subject of criticism among the Opposition as well as civil society.

Haryana’s Police Public School Model recommended for countrywide replication

Chandigarh, Sept 15, 2018: Haryana’s Police Public School Model will be considered for replication by other State Police forces as well as State Police Housing Corporations across the country.

A brainchild of Director General of Police (DGP), Haryana, BS Sandhu, the recommendation of this model for countrywide replication was made during the two-day 6th All India Police Housing Conference concluded yesterday at Panchkula, Haryana. It was organized by Haryana Police Housing Corporation (HPHC) in collaboration with Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), New Delhi.

Director General, BPR&D, New Delhi, Dr. A.P. Maheshwari, Haryana DGP, B.S. Sandhu, Chairman, HPHC Parminder Rai and Managing Director HPHC, A.K. Dhul interacted with the delegates during the conference which was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Manohar Lal.

It was also highlighted that Resident Welfare Associations should be constituted in the Police lines for proper housekeeping maintenance thus reducing the excessive dependence on government funds.

In addition, BPR&D will develop a separate web page wherein all the Police Housing Corporations will share their best practices regarding adopting of new technologies, details and designs in their projects. A report of more than two dozen recommendations had been compiled on the actionable points that emerge during the deliberations for appropriate action by the State Police Housing Corporations.

Deliberations between Heads of State Police Housing Corporations, technical and other experts focused on four broad categories of ‘Maintenance and Repair of Police Infrastructure’, ‘Uniformity in Construction Norms and Infrastructure’, ‘Architecture Planning’ and ‘PreFab Construction and new techniques’.

Besides issues related to exploring Public Private Partnership Mode, annual maintenance of allied service like STPs, lifts, fire fighting systems and provision of community facilities within police housing complexes were also discussed. Presentations on different subjects were given by the delegates, followed by interactive sessions.

Jammu and Kashmir: Five terrorists killed in encounter with security forces in Kulgam

Five terrorists have been gunned down by security forces in an encounter at Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The gunfight started on late Friday night between security forces and terrorists at Chowgam area of Qazigund.

The encounter was jointly launched by Army’s 9RR (Rashtriya Rifles) and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

According to the police, bodies of three terrorists have been recovered so far.

The train services between Baramulla-Qazigund have been suspended, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said.

The internet services have also been suspended in the area as a precautionary measure.

On Thursday, two Pakistani Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM) terrorists were killed in an encounter between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore town.

CBI arrests under secretary of Ministry of Ayush for taking bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested an Under Secretary in the Ayush Ministry for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10 lakh.

R.K. Khatri, who is the managing director of Indian Medicine and Pharmaceutical Corporation under the Ministry, was nabbed while allegedly accepting the bribe from a clearing and forwarding agent, CBI officials said.

The C&F agent had approached the CBI and alleged that Khatri had demanded the bribe for clearing his pending bills.

CBI is further carrying out searches at the office and residential premises of the officer.
