Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram moved the Supreme Court on Thursday seeking regular bail in the INX Media case.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal mentioned the matter today before the Bench. Justice Ramana directed the file to be placed before Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi for urgent listing.
On September 30, the Delhi High Court had dismissed Chidambaram’s bail plea owing to the likelihood of his influencing witnesses.
Chidambaram has been in prison since September 5, after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) finished questioning him in the case.
Chidambaram has been accused for allegedly granting Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds to the tune of over Rs 300 crore in 2007 when he was the finance minister.
