Nirbhaya Case: Patiala House Court refuses to issue new death warrant, rejects Tihar Jail’s plea

A Delhi court on Friday dismissed a plea filed by Tihar jail authorities’ seeking fresh date for execution of the four death row convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case.

On February 5, the Delhi High Court gave the four convicts weeks’ time to exercise the legal rights available to them, after which the authorities should act.

Citing the HC’s order, Justice Rana took note of the HC’s order permitting the convicts to exercise their legal remedies within 7 days’ time.

“It is criminally sinful to execute the convicts when the law permits them to live,” Court observed.

On January 31, the trial court had stayed till further orders execution of the four convicts in the case Mukesh Kumar Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma and Akshay Thakur — who are lodged in Tihar Jail.
