Delhi Metro services will not function on Sunday as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “janata curfew” to minimise the spread of coronavirus.
“In the wake of ‘Janta Curfew’ to be observed this Sunday i.e, on 22nd March 2020, DMRC has decided to keep its services closed. The move is aimed at encouraging public to stay indoors and maintain social distancing, which is essential in the fight against Covid-19,” the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tweeted.
The Delhi government today ordered closure of all malls in the national capital.
“In view of the prevailing situation, we are closing down all Malls (except grocery, pharmacy and vegtable shops in them),” Kejriwal tweeted.
“All non-essential public dealing activities stopped till 31 Mar. Only essential public dealing activities will continue. All non-essential staff are being directed to work from home. All permanent and contractual employees will be paid for this period,” Kejriwal added.
Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said, “We are closing all 3 Delhi Haats also which are run by Delhi government in INA, Pitam pura and Janakpuri. HoHo bus services of tourism department are also closed.”
The number of coronavirus cases in country rose to 223 on Friday.
