A brutal gun-battle on Tuesday morning broke out between security forces and militants in Sopore town of Baramulla district.

Official sources said that a joint team of Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles, special operations group (SOG) and CRPF cordoned Nowpora village of Tujjer in Sopore late last night and started a search operation following information about the presence of militants.

“As the cordon was tightened the militants hiding in the area opened fire upon the forces triggering a gunfight,” official said.

Meanwhile, authorities have suspended the Internet services and closed all educational institutions in Sopore.
