India’s COVID-19 cases rise to 5,66,840; Death toll at 16,893

The number of coronavirus cases in India have risen to 5,66,840 as it recorded 18,522 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. A total of 16,893 coronavirus patients have lost their lives, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

There are 2,15,125 active cases while 3,34,821 have been cured/discharged, according to Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 1,69,883 with 7,610 fatalities.

Delhi has the second highest COVID-19 cases – 85,161 with 2,680 deaths, followed by Tamil Nadu – 86,224 cases and 1,141 deaths, Gujarat – 31,938 cases and 1,827 fatalities.

A total of 86,08,654 samples have been tested so far of which 2,10,292 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
