Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday arrived in Delhi to appear before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for questioning in connection with an alleged terror funding case.
Following the third notice issued against him by NIA, Farooq on Sunday decided to travel to New Delhi to present himself before the agency for questioning.
A Hurriyat spokesman said, “despite repeated attempts to hold the investigation in Srinagar, the NIA has refused to conduct it in Srinagar and has said that it would take care of Mirwaiz security concern.”
“It is unfortunate that the NIA is insisting on the investigation in Delhi,” the spokesperson added.
A Hurriyat statement said on Sunday that all the executive members will accompany Mirwaiz to New Delhi.
“People are deeply anguished by the harassment of Mirwaiz,” Hurriyat statement said.
“We urge all the people to stay calm and peaceful,” the statement added.
