A special court in Panchkula on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.
The three others who were convicted along with Ram Rahim in the murder have also been given the life term.
The quantum of sentence was pronounced through video conference.
Security was heightened today in Panchkula as the CBI court decided the quantum of sentence for Dera chief.
The CBI court on Wednesday had accepted the Haryana government’s plea seeking appearance of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect head through video-conferencing during the pronouncement of quantum of sentence for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati
On January 11, Special CBI Court judge Jagdeep Singh had convicted Jailed self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim and three others Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh and Krishan Lal-in the murder of journalist.
Journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati was shot in October 2002 after his newspaper ‘Poora Sach’ published an anonymous letter narrating sexual exploitation of women by Gurmeet Ram Rahim at the Dera headquarters in Sirsa. The case was handed over to CBI in 2006.
