Rakesh Asthana moved out of CBI, days after Alok Verma removal

Controversial Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)officer Rakesh Asthana, number 2 to former CBI chief Alok Verma on Thursday moved out of the agency, days after the removal of his boss.

Asthana has been transferred to the Bureau of Civil Aviation and Security.

Besides Asthana the other officers, AK Sharma, Jayant Naiknavare and Manish Sinha have also been moved out.

Asthana was involved in a bitter public feud with his boss, CBI director Alok Verma, because of which he was sent on forced leave by the government.

Both Rakesh Asthana and Alok Verma had accused each other of corruption.

Earlier this month, a high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi removed Alok Verma as CBI director.

Alok Verma was transferred to the post of director general of fire service, civil defence and home guard. Verma however refused the posting and resigned.

The Selection Committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet on January 24 to appoint the new CBI Director.
