Government sets up panel to coordinate investigations into three Gandhi family trusts

An inter-ministerial team has been set up by the central government to coordinate investigations into the alleged violation of various laws by three trusts linked to Gandhi family, including the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.

The probe will focus on the violation of laws like the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Income Tax Act and Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act by the Gandhi family-run trusts, the Home Ministry said.

A special director in the Enforcement Directorate will head the committee, it said.

“MHA sets up inter-ministerial committee to coordinate investigations into violation of various legal provisions of PMLA, Income Tax Act, FCRA etc by Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust & Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust. Spl. Dir of ED will head the committee,” a home ministry spokesperson said in a tweet on Wednesday.
