Coronavirus cases in India rise to 7,42,417; Death toll at 20,642

The number of coronavirus cases in India have risen to 7,42,417 as it recorded 22,752 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. A total of 20,642 coronavirus patients have lost their lives, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

There are 2,64,944 active cases while 4,56,830 have been cured/discharged, according to Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 2,17,121 with 9,250 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu has the second highest COVID-19 cases – 1,18,594 with 1,636 deaths followed by Delhi – 1,02,831 and 3,165 deaths, Gujarat – 37,550 cases and 1,977 fatalities and Uttar Pradesh – 29,968 cases and 827 deaths.

A total of 1,04,73,771 samples have been tested up to July 7 of which 2,62,679 samples were tested yesterday, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
