Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Isidore Fernandes was on Thursday elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, sources said.
Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar made the formal announcement after no other MLA from opposition filed his nomination for the election.
The election of the Deputy Speaker was needed after the former Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo was inducted into Pramod Sawant’s cabinet.
Fernandes was one of the MLAs who quit the Congress and joined the BJP on July 10.
