Lok Sabha: Congress walkout on Sadhvi Pragya’s statement

Members of the opposition including Congress party on Thursday walked out of Lok Sabha to protest the statement of Sadhvi Pragya praising Nathu Ram Godse in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

During the debate on SPG yesterday, Sadhvi Pragya had described Nathuram Godse as a patriot, on which the Congress and the opposition had created a ruckus. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that thinking of Godse as a patriot is condemnable. Speaker Om Birla said in Lok Sabha that Pragya Thakur’s statement has been removed from the record.

On the other hand, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Terrorist Pragya calls terrorist Godse, a patriot. A sad day, in the history of India’s Parliament.”

While addressing the media after the walkout in parliament, Rahul Gandhi said, “What Pragya Thakur is saying is the heart of the BJP & the RSS.”

Meanwhile, Pragya has been removed from the consultative committee of defence by the BJP. Pragya will also not be able to attend BJP’s parliamentary meetings for the rest of the winter session.

BJP working president JP Nadda on Thursday morning said that the way the party MP Pragya Singh praised Godse in Parliament, the party considers it completely wrong. This cannot be allowed. Nadda said, “Pragya Thakur’s statement yesterday in the parliament is condemnable. She will be removed from the consultative committee of defence.”
