Cricketer-turned-politician and BJP’s East Delhi Candidate Gautam Gambhir has sent a defamation notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and AAP’s candidate Atishi.
In the notice, Gambhir has demanded an apology from the AAP leaders and asked them to also withdraw their false statements against him.
The notice has been sent hours after Atishi in a press conference on Thursday alleged that the cricketer-turned-politician had distributed a pamphlet containing obscene and derogatory remarks against her in the constituency.
Manish Sisodia, who was also present at the press conference accused Gambhir of circulating pamphlets in an attempt to defame AAP candidate Atishi.
“Gautam Gambhir circulated derogatory pamphlet about AAP’s Atishi in East Delhi constituency. Language in this pamphlet is so abusive and low that everybody will feel ashamed while reading it,” Sisodia said.
Arvind Kejriwal, on Twitter, said he never imagined Gautam Gambhir could “stoop so low”. “How can women expect safety if people with such mentality are voted? Atishi, stay strong. I can imagine how difficult it must be for you. It is precisely this kind of forces we have to fight against,” Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.
However, Gautam Gambhir rubbished the allegations and said would quit politics if the charge is proven.
Gambhir told CM Arvind Kejriwal that he abhors his act of outraging a woman’s modesty and that too his own colleague. And all this for winning elections?
He further said, “I declare that if it’s proven that I did it, I will withdraw my candidature right now. If not, will u (Kejriwal) quit politics?”
