Delhi University Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Tyagi has been placed under suspension with immediate effect on President Ram Nath Kovind’s orders, who has also directed an inquiry against him over allegations of dereliction of duty, Ministry of education officials said on Wednesday.
The vice-chancellor of DU has been suspended for failing to discharge the duties and responsibilities he was entrusted with while he was in a decision-making position, the statement said.
“The President in his capacity as Visitor of the University, on consideration of facts and material available on record, has ordered to conduct an inquiry into the allegations of dereliction of duties and lack of commitment and devotion to duty against him,” it said.
The Ministry stated that all the decisions taken by Tyagi during the period of his absence on medical grounds will be treated as null and void.
Tyagi has been on leave since July 2 when he was admitted to Delhi’s AIIMS hospital under emergency medical condition. The government had on July 17, made Professor PC Joshi the in charge of VC, until Tyagi resumed office.
The move came amid a power tussle between the vice chancellor and the pro-vice chancellor.
