Delhi: Man Shot dead in Taimoor Nagar

A 34-year-old man on Sunday was shot dead by two unidentified assailants in southeast Delhi’s Taimoor Nagar, triggering protests in the area.

The deceased was identified as Rupesh kumar.

Rupesh was injured in firing by two unknown men, who were passing by his house, Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) said.

However, the police are analysing the CCTV camera footage of the incident which took place in a busy area.

In the footage, Rupesh Kumar was seen in the street when two unknown men walk past him and one of them pumps a bullet in his chest.

Locals alleged that the culprits were suspected to be linked to drug peddlers. Rupesh’s family claimed that Rupesh had opposed the sale of drugs in the area and that is why he was attacked, police said.

Locals staged a protest and accused police of being hand in glove with the accused.

The killing triggered protests in the neighbourhood where locals burnt two motorcycles and pelted stones at the police personnel who were trying to manage the crowd.

Many policemen were injured and one of them was taken to the hospital.

According to an official, the situation has now been brought under control.

Investigation is underway.
