Jammu and Kashmir: SPO who decamped with weapons joins Hizbul Mujahideen

A Special Police Officer (SPO), Adil Basheer who decamped, last week with eight firearms from a PDP MLA’ s residence in Jammu and Kashmir, has joined the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit, police said on Monday.

The alarming incident came to light after pictures of Basheer posing with an AK-47 rifle alongside Hizbul terrorists were circulated on the internet. In the pictures, he was seen posing with four Hizbul commanders and the stolen weapons.

Adil Basheer was posted at PDP MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir’s house in Srinagar’s Jawahar Nagar area.

According to the police, a civilian has been identified, who helped Basheer to flee with seven AK-47 Rifles and a pistol on September 28 from the official residence of MLA Aijaz Mir in Srinagar’s Jawahar Nagar area.

As per the reports, the police have detained 10 of the legislator’s personal security guards for questioning.

A similar incident was reported in June wherein another SPO Irfan Ahmad Dar from Pulwama district fled with AK-47 rifle and joined Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.
